Anyone doing this race?

I see the moved it to May and reduced the distances to 200 yds / 10 mi / 2 mi.  While I am a terrible swimmer so 200 yds is ok for me, I can't get excited about spending $60 on a 10 mile ride and 2 mile run.  I want some race day swim practice but wish the bike was in the 14-16 range and run of 5k.  From what I've heard, this race is intended to replace the GJCC race that caters to beginners thus the shorter distances.

Yes, this is more of a super sprint to introduce people to triathlons. The Cedars tri used to be later in the year and it was a 300 yard swim, 16.5 bike, and 3 mile run. I think they lost access to the Jewish Community Center so they had to change things up.

I agree the cost seems a little high for the distances, but I am sure plenty of people will be participating. I'm pretty sure the GJCC sold out each of the past few years.

Skipping it - too expensive for amount of racing.  Plus, it is an hour drive for me.

I have signed up.  It's my first tri and the short run distance is what appealed to me.

I signed up. I did it last year as my first. This year I'm just using it as a brick training day (plus I'm just getting back from injury so the short distances don't bother me).

This sounds awesome.  So how did he do?

Last year a friend of mine from work brought his son there.  His son was probably 9 or 10 last year, but swims competitively.  So his son is seeded top 10 at the time-trial start and some jerk spouts off right to the kid that they shouldn't let kids in this thing.

I was very happy to see that his son came from behind the jerk-off and passed him in the water.

And I was also happy when I blew by the jerk on the bike.

If he wants to talk like the world's biggest triathlete gift to the Earth he'd better be faster than anyone else.

Hope your son didn't face any of that crap.

I talked my two youngest sons into participating with me this year.  Though not as young as your guy, I too enjoyed the fact that they did so well and had so much fun!

would've paid to see that take place Jeff and luckily Chance didn't have to deal with that.. Chance had an ok race, struggled on the swim a little (not his strongest leg). he backstrokes it, which most of the time is fine but with more chop then he was used to he was just dealing with water up the nose, etc. He did great on the bike (got a 24" bike like 3 days before, so I was very pleased with how he handled himself). Started the run ok but ran into a side stitch he couldn't get past mentally, so lot of walk/run/walk.. Still finished it and I'm very proud of him for doing that! We'll probably attempt it again next year, but he has some kids races he'll be doing too..  I do believe he's found a new affection for the road bike though..
