Thanks Di. Maui Memorial is where I'm trying to get a travel assignment. Only catch is they normally only take travelers with prior travel history.... Which I have none of. However, in 5+ years I have done everything from ICU to Med/Surg and everything in between. I've been doing Agency nursing for a bit more than a year now so my recruiter is trying to convince them they wouldn't have to hold my hand and I have alot of floating/ traveling around alot.

Crossing fingers and hoping.

Looks like there are a few posting in Maui, better to get a travel assignment to make the transition easier, I think, good luck!

ya they have two travel positions for immediate start which I would take. just need to convince them to hire me since their normal policy is not to hire without prior travel history.

I called kona yesterday out of curiosity and they won't hire unless you have a current local address.

Can you borrow a local address from someone in Kona? We had to do that when we registered our car here because we were still living in a hotel.

What does your wife do? I tried to scan back through the emails, but must have missed it. I work with the WIC Program and we're looking for a new program coordinator in Wailuku/Kahului area. It says public health nutritionist, but I know we have a number of nurses that are in that position. Also, the state application process seems to take forever - 3 months for me. Anyways, just thought I'd pass it along:

Well things aren't looking promising at the moment.   My wife was offered a part time job with her company (which is exactely what we wanted), but i've had ZERO luck even speaking with someone about RN positions in either Maui or The Big Island.

I've been told so many things by different recruiters to hospitals i'm really confused and worn out by all the running around.  I've been told that hospitals in Honolulu are in desperate need, but i can't get anyone from there to call me back.   I've left messages, had recruiters call and nothing.   My recruiter has submitted me to hospitals in Honolulu and Maui and i've heard nothing.   I was told to don't expect anything since everyone wants to be in Hawaii for the summer and getting an interview sometimes is pure luck.

I'm quite mentally exhausted.   We looooooved Kona and i would move there in a heartbeat.   But finding a job is proving difficult.   We leave for a visit to Maui next week and i'm excited about that.   However, i'll be very upset to leave not knowing when we'll ever make it back.

Very cool!  Congrats! You'll just miss the hometown race - South Maui Triathlon - on June 10th, but there will be plenty of running to keep you in shape over the summer.

Keep in touch!

The agency i'm going through has given me an incredible deal too.   Pay is decent (not as much as i make here), but nice housing allowance and rental care.   Very excited and fortunate.

When i get a chance i'll post more.   Thanks to each and everyone that helped out.

Been so busy I haven't been able to post.

We got to Maui last Sunday and today is my first day at Maui memorial.

We got a wonderful 2 bedroom condo on Kihei right across from Sugar Beach and a short drive to KamI beach. So far we love it. Just a 20 minute drive in this morning to work.
