Subject: Will adamo saddle help?

I currently ride a felt b12 with the stock felt saddle.  Rides over 3 hours/60 miles, I begin to get uncomfortable.  I think my bike fit is spot on being that I can ride 70 miles and feel great except for some saddle soreness.  I have desoto 400 bikes shorts which have plenty of padding and it still bothers me.  When I sit up, i'm usually ok, its the aero position that bothers me..Normally, i'm in aero for about 90% of my rides. Do you think it would be worth it to try a new saddle (adamo or cobb) or should I just expect to have some saddle soreness with a ride that long?

Thanks BT'ers

Yes. I just put an Adamo on my B16 a month or so ago and couldn't be happier. No more soreness or numbness at all.

ETA: I think I only did 1 ride on the stock Felt saddle. I was riding a Profile Design Tri saddle before the Adamo.

First off, a lot of people (myself included) find that a lot of chamois padding can cause more problems than it cures (chafing, bunching).  I got used to doing long rides (including IM) with just tri shorts.  If you are having issues with soreness--as opposed to actual numbness--the Adamo ISM might or might not fix that.  I love my Adamo saddle and it is definitely a winner for riding in aero position, but it was mostly effective at eliminating numbness.

i have a B14 and ditched the stock saddle quickly, tried a few different types but will most likely end up with a ISM breakaway (have a Ism Racing 2 on there now)

Amado on my felt b2 when put on properly and some adjustment time was the trick for me.

^^^ Ditto.

That said, I love my ISM racing saddle.

x3 for me.  But saddles are VERY individual.  I think a lot depends on your exact bone structure and such, though the Adamo design (and others like it) make a pile of sense.  If possible, try out the Adamo and some other saddles and see how they are for you.  But if it doesn't bother until the 3 hour mark, the "try before you buy" that may be difficult to do.

X4 I guess it would be.

I too had trouble with soreness and a friend suggested this.  I went to a Tri short with minimal padding and have had less soreness.

I think you just have to try some saddles out and see what works for you.  And sometimes what works, eventually quits working.  That was my experience anyway.  I have a Cobb on my Slice and it was great all through training for my HIM earlier this year.  I typically ride with shorts with minmal padding.  I wore my tri shorts one day and developed the most horrendous saddle sore 2 weeks before my race.  It wasn't the first time I'd ridden in those shorts, but it was the longest ride I did in them.  Took some time off the bike, and on race day despite lubing up like crazy got a saddle sore on the other side.  Now both areas are sore and sensitive on either my Slice or my road bike on shorter rides.  It's just turned into a nightmare for me.  I'm currently saving up for a Retul fitting, hoping that might help with some of my issues.  I've been wondering if another saddle would help me too, but any saddle is going to hit me in the same spots, especially in aero.  :-(

Although saddles are an individual thing, Adamo or Cobb would be a great place to start. If one doesn't work, you will not have any problems getting rid of it...you could sell it on here in the classifieds. I was having the same problems with a midlevel seat. It was killing me once I got over 45 miles or so. I always felt my legs could last longer than my taint, now, with the Adamo, I feel it's definately the other way around. I finally am enjoying longer rides...Chamois Butter is a great addition to longer rides, as well.

I had numbness with the stock saddle on my B-16. I went with the Adamo racing and love it. No numbness at all. That doesn't mean it's the saddle for you but I think it's definitely a great saddle to try out. My LBS let me test ride it and within 3 miles I knew it wasn't coming off the bike. I put one on my road bike too before I even took it for a real ride. Good luck with your search.

It is bigger on the inside. That's for sure....On the saddle side... Any one try a koobi saddle before?

I was also complaining this on the trainer but I had a cobbs on my felt b2.  Throughout winter it actually got better and better but when I stepped outside I had the same problem as you.
I couldnt afford to buy ISM so I had to wait for a few weeks to have some cash but as the weeks passed by it eventually got better and better and I didnt need to change it.  I even went out for 4hrs this past weekend and it wasnt bothering me anymore.  I say give it a couple of rides 2-3 long rides and you may save some money. I ended up saving the money, just used it for an entry fee HIM!

GOOD luck!

Have you been fit on your bike?

In general folks need to work on fit, fitness, proper bike clothing and proper lube all before looking at a new saddle.

I have heard from a few folks including a bike shop owner that the Felt saddles are quite bad and almost everyone changes them.

Nice thing about Cobb is you have 180 return policy. Otherwise go with local shop that has loaner, demo or good exchange policy.
