Comments: First time racing in wet suit. Loved it! What would you do differently?: I could have pushed a little harder. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Wet suit strippers were great!!! But other than that, horrible job on my part. Ran to my bike and threw my wet suit on top of all my stuff. Lost a sock in the mix (need to learn to go without). Felt like I was there forever. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions. ![]() Bike
Comments: Biking is definitely my weakness. I was expecting 20 mph on average so very pleased I went faster. It felt like a good pace and didn't make me tired. I think my rear tire started losing air somewhere in the last few miles because I was pushing hard but not going fast. Rounding the last turn into transition my bike was really wobbly so I knew something was wrong. When I got back to my bike after the race, rear tire was completely flat. I'm soooo lucky it waited until the very end to go flat! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Guy in front of me running really slow with his bike. I couldn't get around him. Then I couldn't get my bike racked. The racks seemed lower than normal. Then I didn't put my gels far enough into my pocket and they all fell out with I started running. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions. ![]() Run
Comments: I HATED this run course. It was so boring and there was no motivation at all along the way. They needed music or something. The worst part was having to do the same run, twice. They said it was to "view your competition" but there was no way of knowing who was on first lap and who was on second. I was hoping to hold around an 8 minute mile but kinda fell apart the last 4-5 miles, more mentally than physically. I felt like the run was never going to end. What would you do differently?: Don't lose mental strength. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretching, food, beer, nap. What limited your ability to perform faster: The boring run and my terrible transitions. This was my first HIM. Very pleased with my performance! Last updated: 2012-01-12 12:00 AM

Picked up packet and dropped off bike night before. Morning of race, dropped off bike stuff at T1, got my tires pumped, drove to T2, set up run stuff, took shuttle back to T1, set up bike stuff, filled water bottles, got ready for swim. I understand why they needed two transition areas and am happy they did it that way to avoid rough roads, but it made for a lot of running around before the race.
Swam a little in the lake. Stretched.
