Pre-race routine:

Got up early to eat a light breakfast, headed off to catch the buses at 5:45. I caught one of the early buses without standing in line. We got to the athlete village around 7:30. As usual, the time went fast and around 9:30 they called for us to head to the start.
Event warmup:

1 mile walk to the start of the 116th Boston Marathon... my 1st Boston

Comments:

It took me about 10 minutes after the gun to reach the starting line. The spectators were out in full and would be that way for the entire 26.2 mile course. They were a great help in getting me to the finish line. I started with expectations of trying to give it my all and readjust if needed. At mile 7 I felt a twitch in my calf and shortly after I dropped my Endurolytes. I knew then that it was going to be a hard day. I made it to the half way mark without too much drama. The heat really started to take effect on me after that. I made it to mile 17 and met my family. They gave me a cooling towel I bought at the expo. I used it on my neck and ice on my head to keep somewhat cool. The heat jumped on me in Newton and I had to run/walk my way into Boston. It was fun to interact with the crowd and to take in the sites and sounds of the race. I passed Rick and Dick Hoyt along the way... what an inspiration! I lumbered my way to Boylston Street and made it to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Not much to say here. I played it safe on a hot day.
