Swim
Comments: Swim went pretty well. Started off with a couple super swimmers in my lane. They lapped me by the 250 yd mark. Stayed within myself the bulk of the race. First 300 felt long, the 2nd 300 flew by and I was on my way to the bike. What would you do differently?: Perhaps push a little harder than I did but didn't know what to expect in my first race. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was a bit odd as I didn't wear a wetsuit in the pool, nor did I wear my tri shirt there. So, I put on my shirt as best I could in T1. As practiced, it stayed bunched up under my armpits and stayed that way until T2. What would you do differently?: Wear tri shirt and wetsuit in the pool or practice with a trishirt in the poo. Bike
Comments: Cornering was good because I practiced the course 4 times in training. Pace was best I have done in the 4 times I rode this route. Race day'll do that to a guy, I guess. What would you do differently?: Pace myself better in a longer distance event. HR was 150 + (z4+) the bulk of the ride. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't take shoes off before hitting T2. Toes and fingers were cold so racking and putting on shoes was tough. Legs felt a bit strange when hopping off, making the run with bike a bit bad. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Practice taking shoes off on bike for sure. Didn't realize hands and toes were cold till I exited the bike. Run
Comments: HR was a bit elevated going off bike so I tried to get it settled down. Legs felt OK, but not great. HR leveled, but then was pursued by the eventual womens winner who passed me about mi 1.5. Hung with her a bit but ultimately relented. I didnt feel too bad as she's an excellent runner. I felt a little bad as I had just passed her about mi 11 on the bike! What would you do differently?: Pretty much the same as for the bike. Will need to get HR under control and have better pace for longer events. Post race
Event comments: First event, so it's tough to rate. All my needs were taken care of, but familiarity with the course helped me. Last updated: 2006-04-26 12:00 AM

This was my first tri, so had no real routine. Breakfast: Cheerios and a banana. Race was close to home so arrived and got # painted on. Racked bike and laid out transition area as best I could.
Not much time for warmup. No biking, no running but a quick 50 before the pool swim.
