I read that it's still plenty wetsuit legal according to the rules, but will most people not wear their wetsuit? I was kinda looking forward to wearing my wetsuit just to try it out and practice for future races, but I don't want to look silly as the only one wearing it and I don't want to overheat with a forecasted high air temp of 84 (!) on Saturday. |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread 69 is plenty cold for a wetsuit. You might want to reconsider when water temp gets to high 70's but there is no way you will overheat on such a short swim at 69. I would think that mostly everyone is still gonna wear them. I did a Non USAT race last year in Wisconsin that had water temp of 83 and people were wearing their wetsuits. SEwantstobeFe - 2012-05-15 11:50 AM Water temp of 69 today - how warm is this? Agreed. Wear it. You will get a benefit from wearing it. Do it. I know I will be doing it and this is my 4th year in Galena. |

Regular 99 Bartlett, IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll definitely wear my wetsuit. I was trying it on and taking it off a few times tonight - T1 should be comical trying to get that thing off! I think I'm going to try one of your suggestions of taking the wetsuit off just out of the water - I read about doing that somewhere else as well. Going to bring some flip flops, too. Still holding my breath on the forecast - hopefully it holds. |

If it is getting stuck on your legs/calves/ankles I would suggest some body glide in those areas to help. Good luck! |

Regular 99 Bartlett, IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread My problem last night (dry) was getting it off my feet at the end. I've got some TriSlide spray I used on my wrists & ankles - seemed to work well. It was ok pushing it down my legs, just about falling over though when trying to get my first foot out. Glad to hear it's easier when wet. I'm planning on attending the wetsuit seminar thing on Friday and hopefully getting in the lake for a few minutes, too, probably with one of the suits they have on hand so I don't have to worry about lugging mine around all wet on Saturday morning. Thanks again for the advice and good luck to everybody on Saturday! |

1 | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread I'm not wearing a wetsuit, although I think I'm getting more tolerant to the cold after doing last year's Big Shoulders 5K swim. It was 64 degrees and most people, including me, were in the non-wetsuit division. Did a mile swim in Lake Michigan on Tuesday with a full-sleeve wetsuit (56-58 degrees) and wished I had on my sleeveless instead. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread I survived. Woke up and was kind of sick, so backed down the effort to a solid training day. The smell of the water didn't help any either. Still fun. Here is the run profile. Well most of it. Garmin didn't lock in until the bottom of the first hill, so that's when I started it. Ascending should all be there. 345 ft total. About half of that was in half a mile or so. Regular 99 Bartlett, IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread Had a great time and a great race! Thanks to all of you who shared your advice and experience. I was able to get in the lake with my wetsuit for the first time after checking in yesterday which was great. Then my first ows in competition went ok though it seemed like I was on my back catching my breath more than swimming. Don't think it was so much the open water but just swimming in general a I tend to go out too hard and have trouble catching up with myself. Bike and run both went great despite th heat. Felt like transitions were slow, but oh well. Still had a great time and thought it was a great race! Hope everyone else had a gret day, too! |

Is Mapmyride THAT far off? |

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread Also, I just need to say I love everything about this race except for one thing. Their results reports. They are horrible. No way to tell how you did against others in your AG or overall in each of the 3 disciplines. It really is one of the poorer reports out there. Unless someone else has another link that has taken their data and translated it. Other than that, I'll be back again next year. Knocked almost 6 minutes off my time from last year. Couldn't be happer. |

It does alright for getting the overall idea of the terrain though. You can tell where the big ones are and get the idea that the first 5 miles or so were especially up & down very often. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Galena Triathlon : Official Thread They have their usual files up there right away. What he means is that there are no rankings for the splits. Just the times. So one could take those times and put it together on their own, but it's a little tedious doing that from a pdf. |

Yep, that's what I mean. Like you said, it is possible, it is just a PITA to do it from a pdf. And no good way of cutting and pasting into excel either. |
