So, wait...Is 85 degrees supposed to be a bad thing?? Wink

Sorry, in AZ 85 degrees is a cool fall/early spring day...In about another month our overnight lows will vary from 98-102. We can't can't escape the heat, so we do our best to escape the sun...In other words, HTFU!!!

Yes, it's coming for sure. I'm guessing your location is Mississippi? Yeah, that sounds hot like SC.

I was just reading yesterday about slowing pace by :30/mile for every 5 degrees above 60, I think it was. Yikes, that's a lot of slow!

If I did this where I live I would never finish the run.

^^Yeah, what he said.  I like this strategy...I'm not slow, I'm just appropriately pacing myself for the weather!!!

No takeaway from the Summer AZ temps, but 85 in Phoenix actually feels chilly where 85 in humidity feels like you're running with a hot, wet, wool sweater over your face.

When the heat comes-out in AZ, that's a different story.  As one guy puts it "That's Brain-Damage Hot!"

Alrighty...manning up!  I always adapt to the heat...just seemed like 25 degrees was a bit drastic a jump.  I do hope to spend a few weeks in AZ before IMAZ to acclimate before race day. I am waiting a few hours..going to watch some motivation at my running shop first- free screening of some nuts running an ultra in the desert.

You couldn't be more correct...Last year I vacationed in the Outer Banks, NC and I always take the opportunity to run in new places...especially when the temps are as low as 85. Long story short, I went out for a 10 miler and my water was gone by mile 4, the clothes I had on felt like I'd just jumped in a body of water and my sunglasses (yes, my sunglasses) were sweating!! I made it 8 miles and I was as depleted as I was doing an OLY in the middle of the summer in AZ. I didn't notice where the OP was posting, but when it comes to humidity I either need to stay away or HTFU!!

Shouldn't take a whole lot of time to acclimate to perfect (DRY!) weather. LOL!! You're gonna love AZ in November...

If the 30 seconds a mile thing is true, then I may possibly hold some world records. Cool If it worked the other way, I believe that would put me at just over 4 to 4:30 per mile pace for a half marathon race in a cooler clime. Uh.....not! But agreed...it may be a good guideline if you're not acclimated to the heat yet.

My long run was scheduled for tonight as well.  Heat jumped today here and I debated on waiting till later but figured I would be getting off the bike for IM Louisville around that 3-4PM range.  Might as well start building up my heat tolerance now.

95 degree heat in AZ - BFD! I could run in that all day. No humidity, so your body can still cool itself through persperation.

That is not possible with the humidity we have on the east coast,
