Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 1am from the thunder and lightning. Had a few bad thoughts and then back to sleep. Slept well considering. Woke at around 6.30am. The team event wave started at 10am so had heap of time. Had breakfast and got to transition at around 8.30 in time for when it opened.
Event warmup:

My swimmer went for a warm up swim as i raced back and forward to the the toilet - That was a good warm-up in it self.

What would you do differently?:

Not a lot.
Transition 2
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

Not a lot different. Went well. Took my time to have a drink and load up on energy gels. Race brief said there was none on course but each aid station was offering them.
What would you do differently?:

Change my laces to the elastic ones. I do have them but not used them on these shoes.
Run
  • 2h 19m 57s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 06m 38s  min/km
Comments:

1km into the run my stomach started to play up. Lots of churning. Walked for a bit to try and settle the stomach down. Was a battle from the start. Could not manage to run much the whole run. I can only assume I pushed too hard on the bike, but felt very good when on the bike so I don't know what the issue was with my run.i think I need to HTFU.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Train more and do more and longer brick sessions.
Post race
Warm down:

A few drinks of typical juice, and a good message.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Time and lack of training I think. Did a total of 100hrs training in the 4 months from January - 25 per month or 6.25 a week. I did start slower and built up the last month and a half so averages will be a little out.

You are a bee stung half ironman! I'm not sure many could claim that title.

Congratulations!
