Just signed up for the Heatwave Tri in Ridgeland.  Anyone else on BT signed up or planning on it?  Last race was Rebelman, which feels like months ago (even though it was only ~5wks), so I'm ready to get back out there.  Anyone done this race before and have any comments on the bike or run course?  Hope to see some of you out there!

I've raced this the past two years.  This year I'm doing a relay, so that I can focus on races include in the Start 2 Finish series.  Here are some notes about the race:

1) It's probably one of the better put on races I do every year.

2) The swim length can be quite random.  Sometimes it's shorter, and sometimes it can be long (last year it was ~1k yards instead of 800).

3) The bike gets some cross wind as you ride along the Reservoir.

4) The run is on a multipurpose trail, which is nice.  However, it's historically been HOT, and this year isn't looking to be an exception.  Make sure you hydrate well.

Edit:  Also good race in Rebelman!

I want to do it but I don't think my swim is where it needs to be just yet. I might wait until another oly distance later in the year.

Thanks for the info everyone, and thanks for the kind words msteiner!  You seemed to have a really good race, you were cruising on the bike!  Its a pretty tough course for me, especially being from new orleans, those hills seemed like mountains.   I'm hoping the bike course is a little flatter in Ridgeland.  Msteiner, when's your next full race?  What leg of Heatwave are you doing?  I'm really excited to be doing this race, especially after hearing some of yalls comments!

The bike was definitely the highlight of my race in Oxford.  I'm doing the bike leg for the relay in Heatwave.

As for full races, I'm doing the sprint and olympic for Memphis in May this weekend, and I'll race Dragonfly after that.

I am about to sign up. This will be first time racing the Heatwave and my first Olympic distance. My husband and kids were planning on coming for support. Can any of you tell me how the set up is for spectators? I have been to some races with moonwalks, music, etc. that would keep my kids entertained, just wondering what they should bring other than chairs. Thanks!

I hate I just now checked this thread or I would have introduced myself.  I did it as a relay also and was racked next to you Matt.  Yall's group rocked it, good job.  We got third in the mixed relay.  I wanted to do the whole thing but my boss wanted to run and my daughter was swimming in the Stamm Invitational swim meet in Vicksburg so I had to haul butt home to watch her swim.  I didn't think I was going to make it in time as she was swimming her first 100 meter event (she is 7).  I made it just in time and she completed two 100 meter events this weekend  (100 free/100 backstroke).  That coupled along with a third place finish for our group made for one happy daddy ; )

Lisa it was nice meeting you Saturday night and getting to put a face with a name.  Congratulations on completing the heatwave.  Now you need to get ready for the Gatorbait.

Nice meeting you too! Melissa had previously asked if I knew you, but of course she didn't know to tell me you were "peewee" haha.

Heatwave was great. I was a minute off my goal and had it not been for a massive error on the swim I would have been under. I had a very blonde moment and rounded the first green bouy and headed back instead of turning right to the 2nd green bouy. I'm not sure who was more shocked... me or the guy I almost had a head-on collision with (but it probably helped him because he had veered way right of the buoy anyway). I looked around and realized what I had done. Sheesh. That was my dumb move of the day and cost me a couple minutes. The weather was terrific for my first longer tri. I already have my plan updated for Gatorbait. Sure wish we would get a nice cold snap in August!

How great was that weather?  I did the Heatwave as my 2nd tri ever and my first OLY distance race.  I had a great time!  I was a little nervous about the swim but managed to do the whole thing freestyle and not flip over on my back once.  Felt in control the whole way although it wasn't terribly fast.  Didn't get to enjoy the bike ride as I had to pee like crazy.  Didn't feel like stopping on the side of the road and was really hoping there would be a porta-potty at the turnaround.  Nope.  The last 12 miles were miserable.  Did use the porta-potty after T2 and had a really strong run.

Now, on to the Sunfish next month.
