I'm trying to decide between these 3 tris.  I've done Alligator's Creek before so I'm familiar with the course.  Have heard good things about Kirkwood in general but nothing specific.  Fenton is new this year and I'm not sure how I feel about doing a first-time race.  Right now I'm leaning towards doing Kirkwood.  Has anybody here done it and could maybe give me a little more info about the course/race?

Thanks

When is the Fenton Tri?

I have done both Alligators Creek and Kirkwood and both a decent Tris.

First year for Fenton so no history.

I have done Alligator a couple of times and enjoyable.  About the only negative is that you can be delayed by a train.  I have never had this happen to me so do not know how common.  The run does have some hills.  Really, really liked the bike on this.  But the #1 thing for me with Alligator is how they do the start.  You line up in order of how fast you swim.  So it is much more efficient and also far safer on the bike.  Safety is really important to me with these sprint races.

I have also done Kirkwood and it is a well run race and run by a super guy.

Lake St. Louis is really the best race in St. Louis but the safety aspect is really becoming an issue.  I did not race last year but the year before it was crazy on the bike course.  There was a bad crash.  The changes in setting up in transition also is no longer fair, IMHO.  Use to be first come first serve which, to  me, is fair.  Two years ago it was by age group and my age group was in the very, very back.  Was not there last year so do not know what they did

Big Shark now owns/runs that race.  I do, however, agree with everything you posted.

Signed up about a week ago to do Alligator's Creek...first time with that one and only my third tri so we'll see how it goes.  The hills don't look deadly by any means, but can certainly wear you out if you aren't prepared.

Does anyone know of anyone selling their entry into the Fenton Tri, or if it is possible to transfer registrations?  I was really looking forward to doing this race and it appears that registration closed on 7/8/12.  I emailed the race director last weekend and the only info that I got was that they are not accepting late entries.

I need to find a local or at least a nearby Tri to do in August.  Thank you!

This is actually the one I ended up registering for.  Kirkwood and Fenton both closed while I was still deciding and Alligator's Creek is on a bad weekend for me.

I can't decide if I would be too excited for the Sunset Hills bike course...5 laps on a short course seems like a ton of bikes packed in there!  Then add in runners on the similar parts...just seems like a bit too much to me.

I imagine you can get going pretty hard down that hill though!
