Pro 4292 Evanston, | Subject: RE: How much do you spend on groceries per week? Probably $125/week or even more, between what I drop on local organic meats and eggs at the farmer's market and on what I spend at WF and supermarkets (which I tend to alternate, depending on whether the rest of my list looks more like "veggies, coconut oil, and almond flour" or "veggies, tuna and toilet paper.") And this is for just ME, or me plus whatever friends I'm feeding in any given week, no spouse or kids. On the plus side, I don't eat out much. Maybe a few times a month. |

Extreme Veteran 429 | Subject: RE: How much do you spend on groceries per week? Family of 6 (2 adults, a 13 y/o boy that eats more than we do, and 4, 3, and 2 year olds). I'm also pregnant and I feel like I eat as much as our teenager does - nom nom nom! We strive to keep our budget under $150/week (includes toilet paper, cleaning supplies, diapers, etc.), I shop ads, clip coupons, plan meals. We eat out one night a week but consider that a separate budget, we try to keep it around $30 for that meal. We have cut back considerably, we used to do $200/week but are eating a lot more rice and beans and things like that. It is getting harder to stay under budget though. |

Expert 1830 | Subject: RE: How much do you spend on groceries per week? I asked the Mrs. about this, as she does 95% of the grocery shopping, and cooking. Like Kido said earlier, we're fortunate in that we don't have to budget for groceries. For a family of 4, our bill is around $200/week. That doesn't count eating out, which is usually 1-2 times a week. Definitely more expensive (and requires more trips to the store) to eat fresh food. But, dinners like last night are typical: Fish tacos (mahi mahi) with fresh tortillas from HEB, along with sweet potato fries baked in the oven. Homemade sauce for the tacos. We also go through about 4-5 dozen eggs a week. |

True story: My wife stops at the store a few nights ago to pick up a couple of things we need. She usually does one "big" shopping trip a month, so a few times during the month she need to run in and pick milk, bread, some produce, that kind of stuff. So anyway she comes home and is unloading a few things and holds up a bag of grapes and asks me "how much do you think this cost". I sized it up, held it for weight, and I shoot back "$2.50" She proceeds to laugh, tell me I'm out of touch and say "try $8.25" Thank God she does the shopping! Pretty much the same here. We don't really keep track, we just buy what we need. We also live in a small apartment and trips that pick up a large amount of groceries aren't really that feasible. We typically just stop at Safeway, it's next door, every few days. Living in Vancouver is pretty expensive, $350,000 for a 1 bedroom apartment and that's on the low end, and food isn't that cheap either. Honestly I think I could eat out every night, $6-$10 for a sushi dinner for less than I can to grocery shop. |

Master 1730 Straight outta Compton | Subject: RE: How much do you spend on groceries per week? I joined a CSA when I moved here last year. For $29 a week, I get a huge (and I mean ridiculously huge) box of produce. This past week I got: 4 lbs of tomatoes, 2 kohlrabi bulbs, some fennel, 2 lbs of carrots, some arugula, red onions, 2 heads of garlic, a few green peppers, and a few beets. The stuff was picked the day before. It's better than anything you can get at a grocery store or even Whole Foods. If you're in Chicago the website is www.broadbranchfarm.com You can get a dozen farm fresh eggs for $7/dozen too. Granted, that's crazy expensive, but when you try one you'll come back for more. |

Expert 1053 Culpeper, VA | Subject: RE: How much do you spend on groceries per week? Depends, but when I'm couponing heavily we only buy meat and produce. Even then sometimes I can use coupon overage to eat into that. A friend of mine at work got me into couponing two years ago... I'm a recovering coupon addict now. I bought 24 Coca-Cola product fridge packs today for $1.80. That was tax only. I bought 60 Yakisoba noodles for roughly $6, which was .10/ea. I don't know what our budget is, but couponing helps A LOT! I have a shed where I can store and organize stuff. I never pay for pasta and rarely pasta sauce outside of tax. |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: How much do you spend on groceries per week? It's just 3 of us, myself, my wife and our 14 year old beast of a boy that puts away more food than any child should. We do about $125-150 a week, we both pack all our lunches but like a lot of people here we eat healthy so the chicken, veggies, fruit, etc add up quick. I do very little couponing besides at BJ's. Diapers for the little man we constantly get $6 off a case, Cheerios $2 off the double huge box, buy eggs in bulk, chicken too and there are always coupons on the things we get. I see very little difference at the grocery store with coupons but at good run at BJ's I can save $15-20 which is good by me. |
