Comments:

Started in AA wave - went off pretty easily - with lots of people you have to listen to your breathing. BB is SO loud that you have to just chill and run your race. It's very easy to 'race' people to the 1st mile - so patience is key. I ran the first mile pretty solid, not fast, just right. Time was 6:06. I went through the first k in 3:43 which is like sub 35:00 pace so way too fast. Went through 2k in 7:42 so then I was back on 4:00 per K pace - mile 2 was 6:31 (uphill), mile 3 - lots of turns and ended up at 6:34 - which I was happy with. Now we started the long downhill on 19th - but couldn't get the leg speed going. So another 6:33 - at least I was consistent. 19:12 through 3 miles and then 19:52 through 5k and I knew getting into the 38:00s was going to be tough. I ran hard for the next mile, and guess what, another 6:33! So, not much in the legs today, but at least they knew a pace. Next mile was flat out with 2 turns - ended at 6:25 for the split and 32:11 overall - well under 40:00 pace at this point. Now we turn onto Folsom and it's just a straight stretch slightly uphill to the stadium. I just didn't have the horses here to push the pace and I must have relaxed too much b/c my time was 6:40 - (hmmm - let's see 6:25 last mile/6:40 this mile - add them up/divide by 2 and you get 6:32- amazing). So, I get to mile 6 and pick it up knowing I'll be close to 40:00 - but there is nothing left to give - so I just continue to push - cause you never know when you might just feel great - I turned the corner and I saw 40:04 on the clock and by the time I got there I was 40:10 or something. Phew - glad that was over - not a lot of physical pain but some mental pain - I met a few buds, then ran home about 2.7 miles in 20'.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Ran home/showered/ate breakfast with neighbors, Jen D and Don and watched the BB.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fatigue - 3 races in 8 days. Now with some proper rest, I'll have some more fitness.

Event comments:

BB is a classic MUST DO!

Nice run!  It's good to see that the 'coach' has a mentally tough day occassionally.  3 races in 8 days...way to finish strong.

I can see how 3 races in 8 days could wear you out a bit!  Great job there!

I wholeheartedly agree with you. The BB is a must do. Nice results after so many races in such little time! Way to go.

Tough luck on not cracking 40!

The consulation is that if you are running that on a tough course at elevation, when you come down to run with us sea level folks on a flat course the 38 should be no problem!

A 10k is a tough race to judge. It is too easy to go out at 5k pace and then lose it in the last few miles.

Congrats on the great time though!
