I just find it interesting that NYC is so "Pro Choice" on everything (Abortion, Gay Marriage, etc) but all the sudden, you cant CHOOSE what size/type of drink you get??

Huh? This is something the mayor of NYC has proposed, not something that was voted on by the people of NYC.

It's interesting to note that shortly after declaring War on Big Gulps, Mayor Bloomberg has issued a proclamation in support of National Donut Day on Friday, during which Entenmann's will unveil a special 1-foot diameter donut in Madison Park.

Kind of a mixed message, doncha think?

Even as the resident "tax the bad things guy" here in COJ, I find this idea utterly ridiculous.

I still think if you can tax the empty calories at their source, you will be on to something.  Until then, you're just throwing punches in the air...relying on individuals to make intelligent decisions themselves. -I added that one in there for you scoobysdad!  Saved ya some work.

NRG42 - 2012-05-31 9:21 AM I think a better idea would be to band the sales of plus size clothing. That would definitely warm people when they get to XL they might want to slow down. And for those who have a medical excuse, doctor can write a RX.

Sure this is a good idea because I can't wait to see 2 and 3xl people stuffing themselves into xl clothes.

Like this doesn't happen all the time already.  Well, at least here in the Vegas clubs.  I think it's funny to see girls pulling down their dresses all night as they ride up just moving around.

It's not just Vegas, I don't remember when Spanx became actual pants, but it's scary around here.

Instead of being "exclusive" and banning things, let's be "inclusive" and start making things mandatory...mandatory triathlons for all!

velocomp - 2012-05-31 2:27 PM The problem is costs get passed along regardless.  Tax it more, and they can't afford health care.  And we pay for it.  One of the biggest problems, I see, in our society is the fact that those that follow the rules and do things right have to carry those who don't.  And the pool of those that don't is only getting bigger, NOT better.

This is why I've long argued that we need more negative consequences for poor choices. Instead we reward and subsidize them indefinitely.

As someone else mentioned, I doubt this will go through. Hopefully the discussion will get people thinking about the wisdom of drinking over 500 calories of soda at once. I honestly have never once ordered one of those things.

What... so I can't eat my 1200 calorie pint of Ben and Jerry's?

This law is nothing more than the same crap all of our governments (City/State/Fed) have been putting out for decades.... speak to an issue and pass a law that does absolutely nothing to do what it was intended to do. You have accomplished absolutely nothing, but you sure looked and sounded good on TV
