Subject: RE: Name My BikeLivestrong - you sure made me smile. High Karate?! Wow, that brings back a memory. I was raised by my grandparents for a time in a tiny town in Washington state. I was perhaps 7 years old and all I wanted for Christmas was a bottle of High Karate cologne so that the girls would like me. My grandmother was the "eveything but a teacher" at the little three room elementary country school of 65 students. My grandmother was first and foremost the janitor, which included lighting the wood stoves for heat in the wintertime. She was the secretary, the nurse, and the playground supevisor, among othernthigs. (We only lived a quarter mile away so walking back and forth was easy. ). What does this have to do with High Karate? Well, i did receive my cologn for Christmas. Naturally, i put some on the first day of school in the new year. I didn't get much reaction until recess. (I assumed it was the fresh air or something. ). I don't know how it started, and I don't remember how it ended, but for the next few days, whenever i was at recess there were several girls who chased me constantly. I do remember going home and telling my grandfather to be careful not to put too much of his Christmas present on ( he received High Karate after shave ) as it really did drive girls crazy. As luck would have it, my grandfather accidentally knocked my cologne onto the floor shatering the bottle a few days later. He was sorry and said I could use his after shave anytime I wanted. I told him that was OK, my High Karate days were over. I was tired of not being able to play at recess since all I was doing was running from the girls all of the time. Many years later I learned that a sneeky janitor had bribed several adolescent girls with a nickle each to chase me at recess! Who kows, perhaps I have High Karate to thank for getting me started on my road to being a member of BT! Great memory. Thank you! Edited by runamarathon 2012-06-29 1:21 AM
