This thread displays mostly white when viewing from IE 8 not like other threads or on phone.

That's a bug between the Facebook "like" button and IE which only shows up when a thread has an apostrophe in the title and the version of IE is 7 OR if it's 8 and you have "Compatibility Mode" turned on.
