Nice work Louiskie!

Race went pretty well.  I met two of my primary goals.  Top half of my age group 23/49 and overall men 163/402.  I'll post a full race report later.

I Have got to say, the swim course had to be long.  I swam it straight, no siting issues...My swim split was 17:38 2:21/100.

My T pace is 1:36.  I can swim a 2 minute pace all day long. I was cranking it pretty good on this swim...Don't know how I could have been at a 2:21/100 pace.

I will concede that I started off way too hard, which could have contributed to a slower swim time...But I don't thing I went out hard enough to slow my time to a 2:21.  But, add in minor weave yardage, too.  eh..who knows.  Not sure how to gauge that.

Full synopsis to come in my race report.

Was about where I planned on the rest....I'm training through to IMFL A-priority.

Glad someone else thought the swim was long, I am a terrible swimmer but can usually pull about 2 min 10 sec/100's but not today, felt like I was in the water forever.  Other than that the bike was uneventful but I really enjoyed the run.  Nice change of pace from the usual 5K on the pavement and some of the rollers made things interesting.  I was glad to see not one mechanical on the bike during my time on the course, think that is the first time ever I have not seen some bike issue although I bet there were 30 water bottles littering the course at the bottom of the first hill.

This is what the Triangle Multisport Team posted on their facebook page: Hot times at Triangle Tri today (hey wasn't that swim long everybody??!). Those guys know their stuff so for the elites to feel the same as us mortals is comforting :-)

I can swim 1:30/100 pace all day and managed 1:51/100 at this race. I checked a few times from past races for other people and the guy who won my AG swam 9 mins at White Lake sprint and 12 at this one (supposedly same distance). When you are as fast and fit as he is, your times don't vary that much. I swam 13 here 3 years ago, 15+ now on roughly the same training. I also felt like I swam pretty well today so I think this was prob more like 900-1000m than 750. Still, was a good race.

It was a fun day.

FYI, in case anyone is interested in calculating there pacing info. a little more accurately, I just downloaded gps data from my Timex:

Here is the swim yardage I recorded.  Of course, heart rate isn't right:

 17m 30s1188.76 yards01m 28s / 100 yards117117

I swam a pretty straight shot, so 1188 (1084.5Meters) is probably right at the actual distance (Let's here it for ADRENALINE!).

FWIW my 910 had the swim at 981m.  Either way, it felt longer than in years past.

My Garmin 910 had the swim at 934 meters and I thought I swam it pretty straight.

ETA:  That would put my pace at 1:50/100 yd, which is reasonable.

Thanks Garmin-wearers. I think ~1000 yards sounds about right for that course. Everyone I have talked to about the race was depressed about how slow they swam. This will make them feel a bit better :-)

Thanks guys for posting your swim data.  Me and my husband are very new to Tris and we ran a two person relay.  This is my second Tri and his first. He swam and I did bike and run.  We were the only people in the entire race to have no data (except the run) register with the chip system.  I was looking forward to reading splits and seeing the swim and bike times.  We did get a final time and I did have my garmin on for the bike, but forgot to turn it on until about mile 3 (frazzled).  Husband thought the swim was waayyy longer then 800 meters.  I am glad I did not enter in the age group or I wouldnt of made it.  I am a very new swimmer and I am very slow and still very scared of open water situations.   I want to say we had fun being around all you fast veterens.  It was great to hear shouts of support from a lot of you as you passed me on my bike or during the run.  I have done a ton of 5ks/half Marathons ect. but never off the pavement.  I know most of you will laugh, but the off road part was challenging for me and I was grateful for the kind words of other runners.  It was the worst 5k time I have ever done but I blame it on the horrible heat and humidity and hilly off road trails.  The finish line made it all worth it and maybe some day (or century)  I will get to do my dream of Kona.  Smile

I'm (relatively) new to this, but I thought this was a great race! The DOT should consider repaving some areas, but for the most part I liked the bike. I too, find that running off road is harder but was pleased with my overall performance.

My Garmin 910 had the swim at 912 meters but I swam to the left of the sight bouys.
