Champion 9600 Fountain Hills, AZ | Subject: WTC Announcement regarding Lance coming today.. I posted this comment in the other thread but just learned about this coming announcement this morning. It's telling that Lance is remaining in France as per his comments yesterday as his legal team attempts to figure out a way he can still start the Ironman next week. I would be willing to wager that the WTC lawyers are reviewing the language in their pro contract in a despertae attempt to see if they can figure out a way to get Lance to the start line. This relationship between Lance and WTC is VERY valuable, especially to the private equity firm that owns WTC. This was going to be just the revenue windfall they have likely been hoping for to sell Ironman. No way they go down without a fight. They aren't against Lance, they want him very badly and don't be suprised as to what machinations they go through to skirt their own rule. I got a dollar that sense Lance starts France. |

Well, it's just a private contract, so they can waive any portion they see fit (this isn't something like a CBA, is it?). They are probably just trying to figure out the best way to do it and save face.

Yep, both sides will be looking for a graceful way to get him to the start line. Some people will be angry, no doubt, but many more will be thrilled. WTC and Livestrong are smart business. |

Veteran 597 | Subject: RE: WTC Announcement regarding Lance coming today.. I have had about enough of this crap with LA. I am neither a fan-boy nor a hater. I do beleive he doped back then but so did everyone else so it was still a fair race. I dont care. I would still support his foundation because I have heard from enough people and families about the good Livestrong has done for them. If he is guilty or not is irrelevent to me. However, these witch hunts are just out of control and it is very apparent to me that they (pick any acronym involved in sports) just has some vendetta against Lance. Wasting time and (taxpayer) money to TRY to prove something that is inconsequential in the grand scheme and irrelevant to today. I just wish they would spend all the money on continuing to increase doping protocols for CURRENT athletes in all sports and not retired ones who last won something over 4 years ago. This is the same with Roger Clemens. I mean really?!?! they are still going after him for perjury? You have already made his life a living hell for the last few years. At this point a guilty verdict might actually come as a relief to him. I would love to see the total costs of the BALCO investigation. Congress should go audit that because at some point with the way the US deficit is going someone needs to look at the big picture and start NOT spending money on stupid $h!t

Master 5557 , California | Subject: RE: WTC Announcement regarding Lance coming today.. Side note: interesting, I saw today that WADA does in fact have an 8 year statute of limitations on doping violations. And the USADA has now filed their case against him just before the start of the 2012 Tour. Which would coincide with the 8 year anniversary of his final winning Tour. Coincidence? Edit: my bad forgot about Discovery Team on 2005. But I think it's still likely they wanted to get this going while they still could. Edited by spudone 2012-06-15 9:45 AM |

LA is currently a professional athlete that is subject to the USADA, correct? LA also had a little victory a couple weeks ago.

Yes but the point is they are going after him for stuff that happened waaay back. You want to come up with a new test for him racing now? then speand all the money you want. I just want them to focus on current events not history. |

Austin, Texas or Jupiter, Florida | Subject: RE: WTC Announcement regarding Lance coming today.. It's also interesting to me how quiet Macca has been through all of this. I guess we haven't had a weekend or a race between the announcement and now, but you'd think he'd tweet "Lance just popped. Guess I'll have to go to Texas to SMASH him." or something like that. I think the other pros know that there's going to be much more attention on this sport with LA in it than not in it. Now if he gets to race in France and wins (don't kill me yet, I'm making a point), it'll actually get some time on ESPN and the rest of the major news outlets. But the connotation they'll be making will be "Triathletes are cheaters just as much as cyclists" (again, not my opinion, just making a point). I hope he's allowed to race and the USADA drops their charges sometime around October 6th so the attention peaks for Kona... But I'm a realist so I can say it'll never work out so clear.

Actually, just yesterday, Macca said on Facebook: "Everyone wants to know my take on @lancearmstrong. Being banned for being "investigated" seems unfair to me. Let him race!!! Ban if guilty!" |

I just want them to focus on current events not history. Dont they have anything current to charge him on? As I mentioned I dont believe he was clean but I could care less what someone wants to put in thier body. I can only control myself. Plus this constant dredging up of samples from years past just sucks. Why did it take so long? becuase they didnt have anything to test for it back then? Why not pull Hincapie's samples? Horner? Leipheimer? Hell, go grab Lemond's since you are digging up history. I just think it is a giant waste of money and a public witch hunt. Sink that money into something useful for today's athletes...including LA. Test him all you want on his performance today. As a lifelong cyclist it sometimes hurt to hear people talking of a sport I love and the first thing most people will say is it is full of drugs and dopers and they have never even see a race. They dont have a clue what riding a bike is about. Im all for fair play but honestly once something is over a year old does it really matter? |

Champion 8540 the colony texas | Subject: RE: WTC Announcement regarding Lance coming today.. I"m sure it was pointed out in the other thread but they {usada} have said that they will be opening an investigation on him, not that there is one going on now. Since the WTC says anyone under current investigation can't race, I'd think that would be a loop hole enough. Plus they are not a governing body but a for profit business they might have another reason. While I think he doped as much as the rest of the field when cycling, I'd like to see him race an IM and see what he can do. or the WTC are wanting to tell us that the recents pic's posted of employee's jumping out windows are either not true, or that they were jumping off the ground floor and are ok |
