Expert 638   |  Subject: RE: Waconia Tri!Fun race. Water was nice (although it was no longer glass by the time we entered the water), bike and run course are great. Waconia is a real nice venue for a race.This one shoots up to become one of my favorite 3, along with HOTL and Lake Minnetonka. The hot sun was a little difficult for me to deal with on the run, but I have learned to never wish away the sun. I'll take it any day, along with its ability to make me run a little slower. Any see race results online? I can only find 2011. Thanks! |

| New user 18 | Subject: RE: Waconia Tri! Results are up. Ouch that was brutal. Two weeks ago at Liberty I improved by 18 minutes from 2011 to 2012; Waconia took me an extra 12 minutes compared to last year. Not sure why but I just didn't have it in me today. Frustrated! |

But it sometimes means that some races won't be great or that you'll have to dial back a bit. I always found Waconia to be at a difficult place in my schedule. June was always Manitou 15k (or Pigman sprint), then Manitou, Grandma's Half, and Waconia. By the end of June, I just didn't have much left in the tank. |

I also think this was a tough year for Waconia. No records broken and the AG times are quite a bit higher. Sometimes stuff doesn't align. |

I had fun and I would do another one again, but probably one a little less competetive than Waconia. I am a slow swimmer (apparently), and a slow runner, and I had to walk most of the run. But- again, I finished! I know now what to work on for next time! |

| Expert 638 | Subject: RE: Waconia Tri! The hot sun made this a more difficult race than normal. I, too, was scratching my head as to why my times were not great on such a beautiful day. Not an excuse, but I think part of it also was that the one bike straightaway where most people could really hammer (Hwy 7) happened to be right into the wind, which had built up to 6-7 mph pretty quickly. |
