I'm in,  will be my first IM,  guess I better start running since it will also be my first marathon if I don't get one in before.  I'll be smack in the middle of the 55->59 age group.

I've done one Tri so far (a sprint), my plan is:

a:  at least one century ride before the end of the year.

b:  a marathon in december

c:  swim a lot more a whole lot more.

I'm also planning on doing a half next May (www.auburntriathlon.com) and then a whole lot more swimming.   And biking and running.

Is there a way to see how many more spots are open? I"m on the fence for this one and Coeurd'alene. Makes it an easier decision for me if this one sells out.

Since you already have a place out there / know the area well, please recommend some options on where to stay

It will be the first time I'm going to be able to train on the course for an IM, that will be really nice.

The house belongs to my in-laws.....I'll check with them.  Looking at the price of hotels I would say that the best bet would be to rent a house for the week....or weekend, or whatever. (there are tons available)  I'll make a call and get some ideas....they have owned a house there for 20 years.  There are also some great campgrounds if you had access to a camper trailer.  Anywhere on the lake puts you within an hour of the race (at most).

I spend a fair amount of time in North Shore. I'm quite partial to Incline Village. If you have the coin, the Hyatt is sweet. I stayed here after my wedding and I think they do AAA discounts. Like others have said, there are TONS of cabins to rent, some can end up being pretty cheap especially if you split the cost with friends/family. Reno hotels are always cheap but a bit of a drive, and you're definitely not in Tahoe anymore.

I've stayed at Ferarri's Crown once before - the rooms are as basic as it gets, but clean, and it's right on the lake next to the swim start area. The owners are good people and supporters of the Boys and Girls Club which I think counts for something.

That's the plan......but I've ditched those with absolutely no remorse before. Laughing

I've gotta see how the training goes before I give you the over/under line.

Hopefully I'm getting all of my foot/leg ailments over this year in one big group.  Geez.....it's been stupid.  Hip, then IT band, then shins, now PF.....from the southerly track, it appears the pain is about to leave my body. Cool

I'm pulling for you.  I still think we need to get Fred D in on a bet.  I'll even front his $ (a modest sum of course), just to make it interesting.

Thanks....and yeah, that would be cool.  Hopefully he comes back around before that race. Crawling's NOT walking, right?  Laughing

I'll have a week out there 3 months before the race so I can play around and get a feel for the course.....but I've been on a large portion of the run course and it's not bad.....certainly doable.

At any rate.....I ain't skeered.

Lodging:

I have a family place at Northstar and they have lots of rental units (condos) that seem nice.  I personally would look into something over in Squaw village since it's where T2 is and the end of the race.

There should be rentals all over the place and if you are doing > 1 day a condo is nicer than a hotel.

What is lacking is the number of places to eat at and the number of grocery stores.  plan ahead on those counts. (note the grocery stores and food places are great they just might be really busy).

I'm as well.  Should we start a race thread?

This will be IM #3 for me (assuming Canada goes well in about 8 weeks).  My in-laws are already excited about RVing down there, so I guess lodging is taken care of.  I have the best in-laws

I would so Love to go home and do this as my 1st IM, but 2 daughters leaving for college next year probably will prevent that, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!

We've used Tahoe Luxury properties http://www.tluxp.com/ a few times for rentals, some super nice homes and some just nice homes depending on how much you want to drop?

Good luck everyone!

Anyone know what the highest starting elevation for an IM is? Tahoe lake level 6224'

I was SO on the fence about signing up for this race as my first IM..but I chickened out..I was in a dither for hours about whether or not to sign up for it..but I didn't want to do my first IM "alone" and my friend that does some triathlons with me could not do it because she's getting her son off to college next year, also the altitude intimidated me a little bit for my first IM..so..I am considering 2014. Can't wait to hear race reports for this inaugural race.  It looks like such a beautiful course! Good luck to ALL of you who signed up!
