Event warmup:

Warmed up for ~2 miles on the course and then a few laps on the track to stay loose.

Comments:

Started in the front row but tried not to start too fast. This si the same track I do speedwork on so I knew it was going to be tough to relax early, but I settled in. I wanted to be close to the front when we hit the steep steep downhill at ~mile .25, but I was boxed in and couldn't open it up.

The pace was fast though so I was just trying not to lose hte leaders. I ended up ~20 yeard behind the leading group of 5 or 6. I stayed there for almost the entire race. I had a woman pass me with about a mile to go and sat in with her for a few but she pulled away.

I was really fading at the end and with less than a half mile to go you have to climb back up the steep steep hill. I got passed by one final person there and just didn't have it in me to chase him. I knew there was no one else, so I set a strong finish pace to hold that gap and finished it out.

I thought the course was short as my garmin lists 3.03, but when I look at the lap splits, they are .97, .97, .97 and .12 so now I'm not sure if it was short or if the garmin was cutting the corners... Hmm... New PR or not?
