Total Time = 1h 48m 6s
Overall Rank = 423/526
Age Group = clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 31/44
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 4:40am, had a cliff bar and green tea, pumped the bike tires, watched the sun rise.
Event warmup:

walked 1mile with the bike to the race start, stretched out before the swim.
Swim
  • 09m 40s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first open water swim ever, harder then I expected, I positioned myself at the front of my wave and held the position for most of the swim, but the kicking from the front, back and people running into me from the sides made it hard to find my own rhythm.

What would you do differently?:

swim more in open water so I can keep on track better, and swim faster so I can be in front of everyone and not have to deal with all the bodies.
Transition 1
  • 05m 13s
Comments:

Ok\, the truth is I was dead after the swim, I drank more water( not volunbtairly of course) during it then ever in my life. We had to run up a small hill to the transition, and I thought I was not gonna be able to finish the rest of the race if I did not change slowly in transition. Good thing was wetsuit got stuck on my feet so I could get all reshuffled again. I did not feel like running with the bike, I felt like breathing, and sitting down for a rest. T1 was probably the worst part of the entire race for me.
What would you do differently?:

in the future do everything faster, and run with bike to pedal zone- this all is provided I will train harder overall
Bike
  • 1h 00m 18s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 15.45 mile/hr
Comments:

I dont think I rode as fast as I could, I was trying to recover from my traumatic swim/T1 experience. When I started the ride I just wanted to finish the race. Then I recovered at tbout mile 3, and actually enjoyed the rest the ride a lot. Except when I was riding into the park up a steeper hill my chain fell off, it took me 3 tries to get it on, got my hands and then handle bars dirty. Then as I got back on it, I almost ran over a water bottle (that was a close one) that someone dropped on the road. But overall the bike was my favorite part of the race.
I ate a gel at mile 13, seemed like good timing.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder from the beginning, oh wait, I was trying to breathe and get my legs back then, thats right. What whould I do different?...train harder in the weeks before the race.
Transition 2
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

This transition was fine, no problems except one...I had to run now.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 30m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

did as i expected, just under 10minute mile pace. walked through water station while drinking, i don't think it slowed things much, was good for recovery. During the run i was enjoying myself, thinking I'm gonna be a triathlete, and also thinking how the hell does anyone do Ironman.
What would you do differently?:

run more in training
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, drank water

Event comments:

It was great, Im a Triathlete. I can go faster, I cant wait till the next ome.
