Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:50 am. Had oatmeal and a cup of coffee and then off to transition. I left later than I should of and had ten minutes in transition by the time a got there. it was enough be made for a hectic start to the day.
Event warmup:

Warm up was a few strokes in the lake before the start.
Swim
  • 22m 36s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swimming was still slow but greatly improved over last year. I drafted off of people in front of me for the first half of the swim (yes I was actually able to keep up). I actually started passing swimmers on the way back. I definitely swam extra yards due to poor sighting and stopped several times to correct course.
What would you do differently?:

Practice sighting more and get into a rhythm earlier.
Transition 1
  • 05m 54s
Comments:

I was a bit disorganized in transition and was not conscious of the time.
What would you do differently?:

More organization. Practice my transitions
Bike
  • 45m 53s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 16.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Much better on the hills this year compared to last. Still have a lot of work to do. Passed a number of people on the bike leg. Didn't trash my legs for the run like I did last year.
What would you do differently?:

More miles on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 03m 4s
Comments:

The bike transition was very crowded and tight. It took me extra time to rack my bike
Run
  • 34m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I probably could have pushed the run a bit more. The hills in this run took a lot out of me but my heart rate recovered well on the downhills and levels.
Post race
Warm down:

Did a lot of walking as my car was about a mile away and had some carbs post race

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sighting in the swim and overall leg strength on the bike

Event comments:

I would definitely recommend this race. it's beginner friendly. It is however not an easy course.

Nice work. The heat made an already challenging run course even more challenging. Way to go!
