Swim
Comments: Loong swim. Longer than stated distance. Such is open water, though. Other than that, the swim went nicely. I had a good start, and had a much better time sighting here than in my last race. What would you do differently?: Will the course to be accurate. Transition 1
Comments: Nothing really to report here, other than the fact that the uber tall grass got stuck in my toes and I had to spend extra time pulling flowers out of my shoes. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I had a pretty good ride. Only flubbed one sharp turn when I went into it in too high a gear and had to torque my way up a hill. Second time demo-ing Giant PSL-R aero wheels. Loved them! It was a good course, and I felt like I had a good lead coming into T2. Turns out I did! What would you do differently?: Preride the course! Transition 2
Comments: A quick little T2. I love T2, because it almost certainly means I'll finish the race. In other words, the chance for race-killing mechanicals is over. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Holy smokes!!!! I have NEVER, ever run that fast. I wonder if the course was a bit short, but then again, I have been training to quicken my run! I even took it a bit conservatively because of the achilles (which didn't hurt a bit, YAY), since I knew I had a good lead. Once I was confident I wouldn't be injuring my foot, I dug in and counted steps all the way to the finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing! I ran to my first win ever! Post race
Warm down: Walked around a lot, went to Dollywood Splash Country and rode water slides. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pending achilles injury. Event comments: Overall, a good race. Lots of volunteers on the bike course, which I always want for safety reasons. I think Kevin could stand to invest in new timing chip straps. All of ours were falling off by the end of the swim. Also, I wish they'd mow the transition area. That would take like 15 minutes. But, overall, well run and an enjoyable race. My first win!!! Last updated: 2012-03-06 12:00 AM

Slept on the floor of the Holiday Inn. Horrible night's sleep, as you can imagine. My achilles tendon went "twang" on a run Saturday morning, and was quite sore to walk on all day. I kept waking up and rolling it out and stretching. Woke up maybe 17 times. Alarm went off at 5AM...then got some coffee, ate a bonk breaker and banana (my usual) and headed to the race site. Set up my TA, which was in a field of way too tall grass. Got my packet, took a poo.
Jogged 15 minutes, then stretched. To my delight, my achilles quickly eased up on the warm up run and caused me no pain. I prayed this would stay the case.
