Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a bowl of cereal and packed my bike for the ride to the race.
Event warmup:

Rode 9 miles to where the 5k started. Drank water on the ride. Once I got to the race site I had a waffle, changed to my running shoes and checked in. Stood around for a few minutes waiting for the race to start.

Comments:

It was a nice route. My legs were tight at first, then loosened up, then decided they were tired, probably from the hilly bike PR. The small section of dirt was a stretch of about 8 feet but it was up a steep hill. As I approached it I saw a lady struggling to get a running stroller up the hill so I grabbed the front wheel and we hulked the baby up the hill. Pretty uneventful. I did walk some. Started to get a bit light-headed.
What would you do differently?:

Walk less. I'm pretty happy with the run because it suffered a bit because of a great bike ride. I need to learn to be mentally tougher and let myself walk less though. But it was a training run and I signed up with that in mind.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat down for a bit because I was light headed. Then had another waffle, got on my bike and rode the 9 miles home. I had frozen some FRS in my CamelBak bottle and it was thawed but refreshingly cold for the ride home. The ride home wasn't as fast as the ride to the event but it was still faster than earlier rides. I guess all those training rides and the AudioFuel is working!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A hard bike ride, the heat, a need to HTFU.

Event comments:

I did this race two years ago. That was its inagural year with a different RD. This time it was an RD I am very familiar with and they run a great race. I would definitely do this one again, especially with the ticket to the Pork & Brew festival included!

CONGRATULATIONS!

No pancakes, but waffles, piggie, and T.I.T.S. I think you very much did HTFU by putting in a good ride there and back.

I agree with Allen, a pork and brew report is in order. Ok, I admit I'm more interested in the brew, but some pork report will be ok too.Great job biking and running ( and helping). That was quite a training day.

Sounds like fun, TJ!  Nice of you to help lug that stroller up the gravel path   And a bike-run-bike is a great workout day!  You did an awesome job!!
