Extreme Veteran 759 Villanova | Subject: TrainerRoad v. Computer Some of you may remember that i shredded the cable on my KK computer for my KK trainer. I'm looking at what to do this winter and I'm wondering if I should get another KK computer, or if I should go the trainerroad route? Pros/cons? thanks! |

I don't know anything about the KK computer, but I can't speak highly enough of TrainerRoad. It is a huge motivational tool for me. Granted, I'm a beginner (since January) and I don't own a true power meter. |

Master 2563 University Park, MD | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad v. Computer If you have a KK (you do) and a standard bike computer with a rear-wheel speed sensor (good chance that you do), then you really don't NEED anything more. The speed information translates straightforwardly into power information, assuming that you calibrate the rear wheel tension appropriately on the KK. Both the KK 'computer' and trainerroad.com do nothing more than translate the speed information into a power estimate using the same formula that you can use in a spreadsheet yourself. Trainerroad provides a visualization that some folks find very useful and motivating, and it presumably can record data. But it doesn't provide more information about your ride than does your basic bike computer. |

If you go the trainerorad route you will need the Garmin sensor and ant+ usb key correct ? Once you've made this investment you can also use Golden Cheetah 3.0 (free) to see our power levels You can also do the sufferfest workouts in GC. Advantage is it's free. While I have not used trainerroad, I have heard nothing but good things about i and is certainly worth it's low price. |

I suppose I would need a cadence sensor. |

Master 1883 San Antone, Texas | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad v. Computer For TR you just need a speed/cadence sensor and ant stick. TR doesn't just visualize your ride, it gives you specific workouts to follow that are very good. It works with Sufferfest and other videos as well. A few of Jorge's workouts are in there. It also has an area with several workout "plans". I haven't used that, I just pick and choose what workout I want to do on a given day. We just finished a TR Challenge here on BT that lasted 3 months. My FTP went up 25% and W/kg up 31%. Works for me!

Veteran 183 Jupiter, FL | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad v. Computer You'll need a GSC 10 plus an ANT stick to use Trainer Road, which I highly recommend. The motivation it provides is certainly worth the price of admission, and contrary to a previous post, it also provides a history of your progress. The many different training programs it offers will definitely help you increase your power and the support is second to none. Edited by pholahan 2012-07-10 5:20 PM |

This weekend, I discovered Sufferfest together with TR. It was amazing how fast time passed on the Trainer. Attack!! Another vote for TR. |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad v. Computer Nate from TrainerRoad here. Transferring speed to power, which we call VirtualPower, is just one feature. I don't think it's the main driving force behind our software. The majority of our members use us with a power meter or computrainer. I think our main benefit is having a large library of workouts and training plans that get tailored to your fitness level. You start off by doing an FTP test and we then scale the rest of the workouts to your current fitness level. If you stick with it and do what we tell you, you'll get faster. It's that simple. You'll have to put in a ton of hard work and sweat, but we'll provide the guidance and some motivation. Let me know if you have any questions. We also have a 30 day no questions asked refund period. So you could use us for 29 days then click the "refund" button on our site and you'd get your money back. |

I don't have a power meter, I just started fooling around with training with power this winter with the KK computer before i shredded the cable. Sounds like the virtual power with trainer road is the way to go from the people here! I think having the programs and workouts will be a real benefit for me as well. Thanks! |

79 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad v. Computer KK is widely accepted to be quite accurate and more importantly consistent with power. Therefore TR's virtualpower works well. I used it all winter and never had what I felt was inconsistent power. In the 3 months I used TR I improved my FTP over 10% and started in quite good shape (for me). That 10% took me to over 4w/kg (virtual). So it's not like I was starting from scratch. |
