My aunt is a four time Paralympian!  She went to Seoul in 1988, Barcelona in 92, and Atlanta in 96.  She medaled all three times in Track and Field.  Then in 2008 she medaled in Rowing at the age of 52 competing against women half her age.

Thanks for posting this.

How cool is that! I'm a self professed bike geek and, while in line at BWI noticed the woman behind me had the same wheels on her chair which I ride on my bike. That and her shoulders were cut like diamonds!

She turned out to be Tatyana McFadden and we struck up a conversation. She kept changing the topic back to MY racing and not hers! Such a nice woman.

That is cool!  The Paralympics don't get the coverage it deserves.  My aunt is Laura Schwanger if you want to check her out.  She has MS and her last games were after she beat breast cancer.

I've raced against this guy in crit's here in the Chicago land area.  Hell, he won a 4 stage race (mainly cat 5's, but still) series a few years back.  He was ridiculously fast and has gotten faster since then.

I'll be keeping my eyes out for him and cheering him on.

I got to see the U.S. Paralympic cycling team being announced this year.  It brought tears to my eyes.

I've driven / cycled / been a passenger on a train passing the Olympic park for the last five years watching it grow day by day.  I only wish I'd have taken a photo a day but too late for that now.

It's difficult to describe how proud it makes you as a Londoner and a Brit to invite the world into your back yard.  Over the last week I've seen athletes all over town and adverts like the one in this link are starting to be played on a daily basis.  I've nearly got permanent goose bumps and am regularly choked up watching documentaries charting GB athlete's progress to the greatest show on earth.  I love this City and to think that the worlds greatest are going to be having out just down the road is, as you say, awesome.

I drove past this morning and can make out all the final venues now - they've been built for a while but now all the finishing touches of colour, and flags have been added; the pool, the velodrome, the basketball and handball 'boxes', various practice areas, athletes village - it's absolutely buzzing.  Brits like to keep their composure as much as we can but I'm done on this one - permagrin

I've got half a dozen tickets to both sets of games and Can. Not. Wait.

Once in a lifetime.
