Event warmup:

Warm up??? Should I have warmed up?
  • 15m 12s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards

OK, I felt like I had a lousy swim. I couldn't catch my breath.

I can't blame it on anything but not training. I swam quite a bit in the first quarter of the year but only once since mid March. Partly due to schedule but largely due to an ailing shoulder. I am going through physical therapy to fix an impingement. I really haven't been approved to swim but I don't want to piss away a whole season. All in all I am satisfied with this result. Believe it or not I came in 2nd in my AG.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps I should swim???
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s

I had a very slow transition. I had a gel flask to fuel up in transition which blew up when I tried to use it. It made quite a mess and took a while to clean up and re close so I could actually consume some. Otherwise nothing big.
  • 1h 10m 55s
  • 10 miles
  • 8.46 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Again, Train...
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s

Nothing special here.
  • 27m 42s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile

All in all not bad. Again not much training so I have no room to complain. The climbing right out of T-2 put me into the red zone right away. I had to slow down to catch up.
What would you do differently?:

Event comments:

All in all I am pleased with this but I could have easily done well enough to take third place. Considering I have done very little training I am very satisfied.
This is a great place to race. I had a great time.

First lap put me in tons of traffic for about the first half of the first lap. I lost several minutes that is for sure. Much better on the second.
Course: I have ridden here many times but wasn't sure how much of the normal loop was included. It is definitely a riders course as it is pretty technical with lots of rocks and climbing. I haven't done all that much mountain biking so again I really can't complain considering my training.
