Anyone else doing the race this year. Kind of stoked for the new bike course. Has anyone ridden this yet?

I have not ridden the course but I did run the AFC 1/2 yesterday which followed the same course for the middle portion of the race.  My once word of caution is that the area going on/coming off of Harbor island marked as the "Rent A Car Acc" is pretty narrow.  We were running shoulder to shoulder 3 wide and that took up the whole width of the lane.  Granted we only had one of the two lanes blocked off for the race since the other lane was still needed for the airport traffic.  I'm not sure if it will be the same for your race but something to look out for.

Good luck on the race!

Thanks for those words of advice. I will look out for that as well. I just hope my tendonitis is all better by that point to where I could use KT Tape for the race, if not oh well then I will have a really slow run time.

Is anyone staying downtown SD the night before.  I got a room at the Hilton for the family the night prior and was wondering if anyone wants to hang out at a restaurant (pasta party).

I am staying down there, but I am not sure of the game plan yet. My sister in law lives down there and we usually get together with her, also the day before the race is also opening day for my son's soccer season. It all depends on those two things about what I am doing. Send me a message and let me know. I am staying at the Hilton also, nice easy walk to Transition

This is my second year doing this race and I'm excited that the bike course was changed.  Last year I saw 6 people wipe out (at different times) on the train tracks.  I didn't have a wetsuit to wear last year so toughed it out in the cold, anybody know if the water temp is supposed to be about the same?  I have a wetsuit now but am thinking of going without to save a little time in transition.

I would wear it. The extra flotation is nice. I hope they do not have the guy at the top of the stairs this year stopping everyone to unzip their wetsuit. I understand it is a nice gesture, but come on buddy I need to get to T1. Mine has a breakaway zipper and it took longer for him to unzip it, that I could with breaking it away. Also, it caused chaos on the stairs coming out of the water.

Okay, I am not doing this race next year. The Sprint Bike Course has been cut short by almost 4 miles, and the start time for the sprint is almost 2 hours after the start of the Olympic. They are screwing us over once again, and could care less about us, even though the sprint is what made this race popular its first year. So a 500 meter swim, an 8.5 mile bike and a 3 mile run....for the price they are charging and to wait around for 2 hours in 80 degree heat and a wetsuit...forget it.

So what the hell??  My wave does not start until 9:20 am.  So much for basking in those cool morning temps!  Last time I sign up for the military division!

And to top things off, MANDATORY packet pickup is from 12-4 pm on Saturday. No race day pickup. Do they not realize people are driving in on Saturday from far places.  Traffic is terrible on Saturdays!

I saw that too, but when I arrived on race day they had a packet pick up booth. Annoying that they change the rules at the last minute.

Its already after the fact but I called TriRock regarding packet pickup the day before the race.  The said there would be packet pick up but they dont advertise it due to massive swarms of people trying to pick up on race morning.
