Overall Rank = 847/
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 57/
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 5AM, 2 Harvest bars, 1 banana, 2 electrolytes, 2 Tylenol
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 36m 2s
  • 2100 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

What a horrible swim. The chop was bad in both directions. Felt like crap, no rhythym. No drafting, couldn't seem to find the buoys, felt like I must have swam a few hundred yards extra.
Transition 1
  • 03m 48s
Comments:

Still need to get used to Speedplays, took a few seconds getting in. Jersey stuck on shoulders, took a while to get it down.
What would you do differently?:

Keep riding and get used to pedals.
Bike
  • 2h 51m 50s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Never thought i'd have a race where my age group rank was better on the bike than on the run. But for as bad as my swim was, but bike was great. Felt fast yet confortable. Found a few people that were my pace and targeting always keeping them in eyesight. This worked really well and made me keep pushing. Finished feeling strong and that I could have easily gone harder, but not that I had not pushed hard enough. One of the best bikes, race or non-race, of my life.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe slap a little chamois butter on in T1 to cut down on the taint pain.
Transition 2
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Good t2, actually stopped and looked around because I felt it was too easy and I was forgetting something. Little logjam during dismount.
Run
  • 2h 21m 50s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Started with need to pee so bad. Eventually snuck off at mile 1 at a tree. My shins hurt for the first 2.5 miles, but I did the 9 min run 1 min walk to stretch them out. THe shin pain went away and I flet great for the next 4 miles. Then I starting getting "stitches" under my left bottom rib. Keptpumping fluids and double up on salt tabs (4 in 1 hr, sindtead of normal 2). Walked every water stop. Hit the wall @ 10 miles. Not that my body really hurt then, just was bored and unmotivated. Started picking short goals and got into a conversation with a similar paced runner. Ended up running the last 3 miles with him and flet great. Slow steady finish. Much better than last year, the heat differential was huge.
Post race
Warm down:

None, 3 plates of pasta

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More run training and more bricks.

Event comments:

Had a goal of sub (most specifically 5:56:30) after my poor 6:30 last year in the heat. The swim pissed me off so I took it out on the bike and ended up showing myself that I can actually bike (at least on the flats). NOt only was my time much faster but I felt great after the race (I bleieve nimble like a balerina was thrown in conversation), and feel good the day after.

awesome ride. it was so fast you hit your goal time exactly even with a slower than you planned swim and run. it's great to see you out there hammering away without terrible neck pain and dislocated limbs. if you keep riding, you have a lot of good rides in your future. looking forward to hitting the roads next few weekends.

great race taco! that ride was the biggest destruction of any goal for any aspect of the race that anyone in the group had...nice work. i remember my jaw dropping when amy & laura told me you were only 10min behind me into T2...I started crunching some numbers (of course) and I knew you had crushed your targeted goal of 17-18mph.

btw, your swim AG rank was 22, bike 46 and run 69. I think you got confused with some transition ranks and/or cumulative place.

Wow, that's a impressive swim time!   Congrats on finishing one seriously challenging race! Your avatar is making me crave Taco Bell (which, BTW, was my after race dinner before leaving Cambridge)

Nice race, Craig. Looks like the new bike may be a good luck charm.

Tell Amy hello and it was nice hanging out with her all day. I look forward to seeing you both in LP in just a few weeks!
