Subject: Netflix vs. Amazon Prime?

I, like many others dropped Netflix back when they raised their prices.  Now, I am in need of some entertainment on the trainer as I ride it at least once a week using TrainerRoad for intervals.

I was already bored with Netflix's offerings, but could ususally, after much hunting, find something to entertain me.  I ws looking into Amazon Prime.  Seems like a great deal for the price.  I also order stuff from them occasionally and the free fast shipping looks like a great bonus.

For those of you with Amazon Prime, are you happy with the selections?  I like TV series, documentaries and some movies.

The problem with Amazon Prime is their free selection is crap, no better than what Netflix streams.  Most of what you'll want to watch you'll have to pay extra for.  Hulu plus is slowly getting better as they add older stuff to go with the current shows.  My wife is currently re-living her youth watching old episodes of Remington Steele.

I had Netflix and also dropped them after they split the services. I was using both (DVD by mail & streaming) but not each by itself to pay double.

I already had Amazon Prime for the shipping benefits. We order A LOT from them. I have enjoyed the streaming benefits and the Kindle borrowing benefit.

I got Hulu Plus earlier this year because the selection for Amazon was sketchy. So far, its been my favorite of the 3. Mainly because of being able to catch up on current tv, watch some classics and discovery some good British TV. My favorite right now is Misfts. You can beat it for $8 a month.

I have both and am not happy with the selection either offers. For movies I prefer my Blockbuster account which lets me have two new-release DVDs out at all times.

When I get around to it I will cancel Netflix but I will keep Amazon Prime because of the other benefits. I get a free loan of a Kindle book monthly, plus free two-day shipping on Amazon purchases, which is awesome.

Between Hulu & Netflix, Netflix seems to have better content IMO.  They have improved their offerings and seem to be spending more effort and money on the streaming side of their business.  That's my assumption based on what I see offered.  I suppose the other possibility is that movie studios and TV studios are just more willing to enter into streaming deals with Netflix so they are getting a better selection.  It's changed considerably in the last year or so.

Hulu+ is ok, but I find that the shows I want to watch they still only have the last 5 or so available.  I don't get the whole season or history, which does me no good.  Additionally I don't generally watch ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.....  I'm more of an AMC, SCI, NAT GEO, CW, HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. type of guy.  So that may be more telling.  I also watch a lot of documentaries.

I can give no commentary on Amazon Prime.  I do iTunes for anything I want to purchase.

I wish the pay movie channels would go to a streaming only option. They could make a killing if you could purchase their service without having to go through the cable/satelitte company.

I usually only watch HBO using HBOGO not through our cable.

I wish they would too, but unfortunately they make more money by staying with the providers than going outside/on-line.
