Pre-race routine:

Ate a mini bagel 2 1/2 hours before the race and a banana on the way there. Have a serving of Sports Beans 15 minutes before the start.
Event warmup:

No real warmup for this event. Just set up transition and waited for the start.
Swim
  • 06m 30s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the coldest swim I have ever done. I have heard people say how they couldn't breath in cold water and I frankly never believed it. Now I do! The water literally took my breath away. I started to get my breathing under control at about the turn around point. Then all I could smell and taste was gas from the boat! I was glad when this swim was over!
I do not have a time split for just the run, as the time includes swim, T1, and the bike (53:09). This is an estimate.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

This transition took a bit longer as I was shivering! The time is estimated.
Bike
  • 45m
  • 10 miles
  • 13.33 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This time is included in my run time.
Run
  • 28m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

This time included T2. I felt great on this run. My foot hardly hurt at all and my pace was good.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, had some water and fruit, then headed off for some yummy pizza with my family.

Event comments:

Even given the problems, this was still a fun little race. I will probably do it again and was offered 1/2 off registration for next year for the confusion.

Course: On paper before the race started, the course looked confusing. It didn't help that once on the course a group of us got directed the wrong way at an intersection by a volunteer. We ended up on the highway, way off course. We finally found our way back on course. I am estimating a couple extra miles. The course itself was challenging and hilly, but a lot of fun.

I was in the lead of the group that got directed off course, sorry if you were following me. My gps shows about an extra 1.5 miles that we were off course. I have my gps map up on strava. http://app.strava.com/rides/18944172

You can compare it to their course map and see we missed the turn right after making the left off the bridge.
