Pre-race routine:

Packed up the car the night before. Oatmeal squares and gatorade for breakfast. Got there nice and early so we had time to get our transition areas nice and organized, get our wetsuits on (punched myself in the face in the process, oops) and do a bit of a warmup swim.
Event warmup:

Swam out to the first buoy and back.
Swim
  • 26m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was shallow but a nice loop. My first triathlon without a choppy swim so it was very nice. I drafted on someone for a little while, but not very well and I lost her at some point. I could probably have done a better job sighting but overall I was happy with how the swim went.
Transition 1
  • 03m 8s
Comments:

I took my time in T1. I was a bit out of breath and there were some treacherous stairs just after getting out of the water. I took my time taking off my wet suit and making sure I had everything in order before my bike as I settled down. Definitely could have gone faster, but I'm glad I took my time.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 56s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 21.26 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice bike course (other than the Old Route 140/County Road rough segments). I passed quite a few people on the bike and just felt good the whole way. I pushed, but not too hard. Just felt good out there.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have pushed harder, but I think if I had my run might have suffered.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Took my time in T2 too. Massaged my calves a little in anticipation of them getting tight on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Could probably have gone faster but I'm happy with it overall.
Run
  • 50m 13s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was hard at the start and I felt slow, but at mile 1 I was actually doing less than 8 min miles so I slowed down a little and quickly started feeling good. Next 3 miles went well and felt good. The last 2 miles were a little tougher, but at that point there were only 2 miles left, so was able to push through fine and didn't really drop my pace at all. I poured water over my head at all of the aid stations but only actually drank a couple sips throughout the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some food, had some water and Coke, and walked around a bit. Also swam a little with my fiance to cool off/rinse off and just for fun.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was a bit lazy in my training for this race, but luckly my half ironman training carried me through. I think if I had gotten in more of my speed workouts I could have picked up my pace more, especially on the run. Overall I'm happy with how it went though especially since it's my 3rd triathlon, and first olympic distance race.

Event comments:

The swim start was delayed 15 minutes because it was so foggy you couldn't see the swim buoys, but it was a good decision and by the time we started it was nice and clear. Overall a very nice race.
