Total Time = 1h 37m 49s
Overall Rank = 57/671
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/68
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and showered, had some peanut butter/ jelly toast, and headed out the door with my sister who raced with me.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little bit and chatted with a few people that I knew who were racing. A couple of co-workers were racing as well, one was doing the Tri and the other was racing in the Du. Set-up my transition area and walk around a little bit to keep my legs loose.
Swim
  • 16m 45s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

What can I say, this was the worst swim performance of the summer for me which was very disappointing. I wanted to come out of the water around 15.00 minutes and was not even close to that time. It was a very physical swim as people tried to jockey for position. I could not see the first buoy and my navigation was way off. At one point, I almost swam into a kayak I was so far off. I had to stop and pull up my goggles twice to see the buoy. After rounding the first I was finally able to see the second buoy and the second half of my swim was better than my first half.
I am going to make a commitment to improve my swimming for next year. My first few races I felt that I held mine own in the swim but was put in my place for the Reeds race.
What would you do differently?:

Everything....sight and navigate better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

My suit got stuck on my left heel for a moment due to the chip.
What would you do differently?:

Smooth out my transition
Bike
  • 43m 46s
  • 17 miles
  • 23.31 mile/hr
Comments:

Super fast going out and there was a slight headwind coming back. There are a couple of hills on Fulton coming back with a bigger climb that can burn your legs. I think I could have pushed a little harder and got out of the saddle.

I improved my time by almost 2 minutes from last year and was 27th overall on the bike. The bike is my best event and has been all year.
What would you do differently?:

Push the hills harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

The transition area has a long run and I felt I was able to get in and out in an ok time.
Run
  • 33m 57s
  • 4.9 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt a little weak at the start of the run but I was averaging a 7 minute mile pace the first couple of miles. I picked up the pace towards the middle of the run and was able to sustain that pace.
I was able to shave a few seconds off of my run time from last year. Another goal of mine is to increase my run pace for next year.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and had a bagel. Waited for my co-worker and sister to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming and running

Event comments:

Reeds lake has been my favorite race the last 2 years and this year was no different. The atmosphere and volunteers were terrific. I was able to shave about a minute and a half off of my time from last year but was still disappointed in my performance overall. There are a lot of fast people who show up for this race and it is very competitive. It is a good race for me to end on for the year and I will be back next Sept.
