Total Time = 1h 18m 41s
Overall Rank = 35/212
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 2/10
Pre-race routine:

Good to arrive early, less hassle with parking.
Event warmup:

15 minute warm-up jog around the lake.
Swim
  • 13m 8s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Mental victory in keeping focused. Though I stroked steadily the whole time, my arms got tired.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 25s
Comments:

Top 3 or 4 fastest T1 times of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Nailed it.
Bike
  • 40m 28s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 20.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall HR was 159 (IF 0.88) - this seems low, I think I should have been able to go harder.
What would you do differently?:

Bike HR avg was 159 (IF 0.88). Perhaps next time focus on keeping HR at 160 to 165 (LT). Avoid spikes above 170. 5 months ago on the same course my bike HR avg was 162 (IF 0.89) and time was 16 seconds faster, so not much difference.
Transition 2
  • 00m 25s
Comments:

Top 3 or 4 fastest T1 times of the day, not bad. Fastest was 18 seconds! I don't know if I could run the length of T2 in 18 seconds, even with no bike nor putting on shoes.
What would you do differently?:

I fumbled putting on my shoes. I need tri race shoes with a heel loop.
Run
  • 23m 22s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

12 seconds slower than my run on the same course 5 months ago, so not much difference. I let down mentally in mile 2.
What would you do differently?:

I identified my competition, 2 guys who finished ahead and placed in the Masters Overall, but I did not identify the guy who finished 32 seconds ahead of me and won our age group. Arrgh. If I'd known him and seen him at the turn around, I would have worked hard to catch him. I was faster on swim, T1, T2 and run, but he was 45 seconds faster on the bike and won by 32 seconds. Sprint tri races are decided by seconds. Overall 1st and 2nd were 7 seconds apart.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably swim fitness, bike HR focus, and run consistency.

Event comments:

Chuck does a great job with all the Tri The Parks races. I highly recommend them. After my warm up run, I complained about a hazard in mile 1 of the run course. They had it marked with an orange cone before the start.
