Subject: Where should I focus first?

Hi all.

I finished my first Sprint Triathlon on Sunday and had a blast! It was hard but it feels good to have the accomplishment. My question is where should I apply the most focus before my next one. I'm not great in any one event. Here were my times. I'm a 44 yro male.

swim - 14:32 (600m lake swim)
T1 -      2:02
Bike -   48:28 (Rural roads a few good hills)
T2 -      0:46
Run -   30:04 (Flat route in a corporate park

Total time: 1:35:54

I would hazard to guess that your Quickest improvement would be on the bike, getting your bike time

down to around 40min should be just a matter of getting out and riding more. reducing swim time and run time is more difficult to achive and usually is a process that takes a longer time frame. Riding More and riding more in aero, increasing bike endurance is generally a pretty straight forward process, and as the longest part of the race is generally on the bike then this is where I would start to look for gains first. That being said I wouldn't forget about the swim and run but if I was looking for the quickest improvment then I would go at the bike.

Perhaps provide a little more information on things like bike & run distances, your training background and general state of fitness, height/weight, what kind of bike you're riding, etc. Folks will offer more specific advice based on that.

Your percentile of overall athletes for each split would be most useful.

Did you wear a wetsuit in the swim?

JZig - 2012-09-11 1:21 PM Your percentile of overall athletes for each split would be most useful.

That's what I look at.  If I'm top 1/3 in the swim and run and bottom 1/3 in the bike... Bike needs work.

But if you are top 1/3 in the swim and bike and bottom 1/3 on the run.  It could be your run, but most likely your bike!  Clear?

Pick a solid, balanced plan and follow it.  And in my case.  Work on the bike.

Not to add to the flood of yet unanswered questions...

but, judging from the fast T2 time would I be correct in assuming you were not using clipless pedals on the bike?
