Swim
Comments: Swim felt good for the most part except for my sighting. It was hard to see the buoys at first. There were lots of 'extra' buoys for the no wake zones which confused everyone. I think I swam sideways too much. With about 200m to go my calves started cramping. I quit kicking and tried to keep them from locking up. I know this cost me some time. I was shooting for 25 or less, but considering my place, it was ok. What would you do differently?: Practice sighting and ows more. Need to figure out how to stop the cramping. Transition 1
Comments: My calves locked up trying to kick out of my wetsuit. They completely knotted and I had to stop and pull the suit over my heels instead of just kicking it. Everything else went pretty well. What would you do differently?: Not cramp during transition. Bike
Comments: It went fine, I thought at the time. My biggest issue was the rough chipseal texture of the road. I feel like it slowed me down. Not sure what would help other than a new bike as mine is a 30 year old road bike. I think I was drinking too much water hoping it would help with the cramps. What would you do differently?: Afford one of those fancy bikes. Transition 2
Comments: Had to stop in the porta potty to pee. It cost me some time, but I just couldn't pee on the bike. What would you do differently?: Pee on the bike? Or else not drink so much water? Not cramp in the swim. Run
Comments: My run felt pretty good for my cramping issues. I was hoping for a 48 or better, but I'll take the 50. What would you do differently?: Again, not cramp in the swim. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank 3 bottles of water, ate a banana, got a massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: My cramping in the swim and T1. It hurt the rest of the race. Event comments: It was a fun race. There were tons of volunteers and lots of post race food. I would do it again if I can afford the trip. I think if I hadn't cramped or had to stop for the bathroom in T2 I may have podiumed. This was my first olympic distance in 12 years, so overall I'm pretty happy. I promised myself I would be happy with anything under 2:30 and I did it. On to a HIM in the spring! Last updated: 2012-07-31 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 after about 5 hours sleep. Never sleep well before a race so this was normal for me. Ate some oatmeal and eggs and had morning coffee. Got there about 6:15, set up my bike. Turns out there was plenty of room, so I could have shown up later. I ate half a bagel about an hour before and drank some water.
Rode bike from car, jogged about half a mile, and swam a couple hundred yards. Everything felt fine except I was going to the bathroom a lot. Maybe I drank too much water before.
