Pre-race routine:

Coffee, banana and peanut butter. Packed up car and drove to race site, about an hour 15 mins away.
Swim
  • 14m
  • 586 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

very rocky and shallow swim course. our wave felt very large and therefore the swim was pretty rough - lots of scrumming, kicking and hitting. most physical swim i've experienced in a race. i had a few racers grab onto my ankles and pull me back from time to time. pretty chaotic. i would expect that more at the start of the swim but it lasted for most of it!
What would you do differently?:

not sure.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

my T1 time always disappoints me! i take a little more time now that i'm connecting my insulin pump during T1. (have to unzip trisuit and clip into infusion set, kind of fumble around a bit). but small price to pay to keep my blood sugars in normal range!
What would you do differently?:

not much

Run
  • 30m 55s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

had to run up the same hill out of transition as at beginning of bike leg. that sucked! i actually allowed myself to walk up the hill so i wasn't starting the run with a super high HR. i'm surprised with my pace since i did walk that hill and walked through the water station. thought it would have been slower, so i'm happy with that, especially since my run training has been non-existent this year with my shin injury. :)
Post race
Warm down:

drank some water, hung out with friends

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of run training, need to push more - i tend to keep things comfortable

Event comments:

really well run race. it helped that the weather was perfect! beautiful location. max performance always does a great job! would definitely do this race again.

Nicely done! I guess this was the sort of course we were expecting for Escape the Cape, but this time we got to swim. So ... you did this race with an insulin pump and limited post-injury run training? You are a hero.

Truly, it was a perfect day for a race, in a beautiful location, and I'm glad you were able to have a good time. See you next season!

Sounds like a beautiful location for a race!!  And great results and of course I am sooo envious of your run pace!!  I can't believe people were grabbing your ankles, seriously???  That's just wrong!!  And nothing worse than a hill right out of transition and you had it twice!  I say you had a super finish to your season!!
