Pre-race routine:

I got to the race, got everything fixed with my event, got my chip and my transition set-up just in time. I really hate being late and we seem to do it that way all the time. It always ends with good results though.
Event warmup:

Heart was alredy pounding from all of the drama. I even managed to work up a sweat runnning around trying to get everything ready. I managed to do a brief jog before they started the race.
Run
  • 26m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I think I need to work more on this event. I wanted to make each of the runs in under 28 minutes. Accomplished with no problem.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the venue at least an hour early.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

A little slow coming out of T1. Managed to pass a few people doing it though.
Gelled and got some water down.
What would you do differently?:

Get my transition a little faster.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 10s
  • 19.7 miles
  • 17.34 mile/hr
Comments:

The first 15 minutes I felt like I wanted to throw up. I am sure that it was the gel not sitting well.
After the gel took hold, I had a hard time staying focused. My mind started to wander, which I am very dissappointed in myself for. I just stopped paying attention to my speed and cadence. I rode for about 15 minutes like it was just a leisurely stroll. I snapped out of it when the long course people started passing me. The rest of the race went really well.
I did see some funny stuff out on the course though - like a full suspension mountain bike with aero bars and some dude (at least I think it was a dude) cruising in nothing but a HOT PINK speedo. Nice.
What would you do differently?:

Concentrate and focus. I can't be doing that in the middle of a race. Regardless, I still had a decent bike leg. Didn't make my goal time, but it was close.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

I just have to get faster at this.
Run
  • 27m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

I passed some and I got passed some, but I did ok. I kept thinking about being done. That makes me run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Went to the transition area and got some water and gatorade. I found Zac and Wes. Their man was still out running and they were waiting for him to come in. We sat by the finish line, and I did some stretching while we cheered on the other racers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of focus on the bike. Slow transition times.

Event comments:

Very well put together! Very prompt and well managed! I will look forward to this one next year!

I was at the back of the pack, but since running is not my event, I saved my energy for the bike.

Great race report.  I did the sprint tri at Tinman.  I agree about the event and how well it was put together.  Glad to read your very well-done report.  Thanks,

 Kevin

Great job Robyn. Nice to not have too much of a dropoff between your first and second run legs.
