I had sesamoiditis on the ball of my foot. X-ray showed two sesamoid bones where there should have been 1. Doc could not tell if it was a fracture or if I was born that way. Could have been either. Fact as tendon was tight and rubbing on sesamoid. He gave me stretches and I believe icing instructions. I gradually got better an went away. I think the stretching was the key.

I've had it off and on for a couple of years. Podiatrist said I could run through it. She also recommended more flexible shoes. Ultimately, shifting from heel-striking to mid-foot strike all but eliminated it. Now I just have the very occcasional twinge during high-mileage weeks.

Yep, had it several years ago.  Podiatrist injected it with steroids which hurt like a mother!  Could barely walk after he injected it.  Rest helped, as did wearing a gel sleeve over the ball of my foot  when I ran.  It looks similar to what a ballet dancer might use for pointe shoes.....

Had it as well. Podiatrist said run through it and suggested more flexible shoes also.

I apparently got out of a hospital bed after stomach surgery and fractured it on the concrete/tiled floor????

Hurt like hell and the only thing that got it to go away was wearing one of those big bulky boots ALL THE TIME! Didn't take it off for 4-5 weeks except to go to bed!

Good luck!
