Comments:

So hopefully this is the first and the last time I miss a turn during a race. I was in first coming out of transition, but of course Nate the beast came up and caught me on the bike, as expected. I kept him in sight for a while, but he did get out of sight. I came to an intersection and I thought we were supposed to go straight. There were 2 volunteers out in the road and neither of them were pointing at all so straight made sense to me. As I rode by them, probably got about 3 feet from them, they didn't say ANYTHING! I assumed all was good until a couple minutes later when I woman rode up in her car next to me and said "You're going the wrong way!" My stomach kinda dropped, but I turned around and headed back to the course. At the point, I thought about just stopping, but knew I had to ride back to transition anyway. I thought about it the whole time and really wasn't sure what I was going to do.
What would you do differently?:

Not ride about an extra 1.5 miles!
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

When I got to transition, I was pretty disappointed and still hadn't decided what to do. I took my time and actually thought I was going to just stop. However, my wife was there and she said, "what are you doing?" so I decided to get back to it.

Still was distraught on the run, but I pushed pretty hard. Ended up having the fastest run overall by over a minute.
Post race
Event comments:

Pretty disappointing day, but I'm glad I finished. I'm most disappointed because I didn't get to battle with Nate. I think he still would have won the race, but I could have at least made it interesting. Nonetheless, congrats to NEMS for getting 2nd in the team competition and Nate for taking the win!

Wondered what happened when I saw the results.  Not that I (and 99% of triathletes) would die for those results but I knew something was up.

It would have been hear about you and Nate hammering it out on the run, but it wasn't to be.  Great race anyway, all things considered, and it's all about Kona now anyway!
