Pre-race routine:

Arrive at T1 and 6:15 and wait a long long long time for 9:20 swim start.
Swim
  • 33m 4s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Blech. Probably one of my worst open water swims ever. Water was choppy with significant tidal current, which for some reason really inhibited my ability to swim straight. Also got quite nauseous from the chop (never happened to me before). I did the Eagleman swim of the same distance in the same body of water 2 minutes faster than this, and that was without a wetsuit.

At least there were no jellyfish this year.
What would you do differently?:

Ummm, swim better? This is the only part of these races I am good at, so I need to take better advantage.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Some confusion with bike gear bag. Probably should have just kept gear at my bike.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 51s
  • 25 miles
  • 20.31 mile/hr
Comments:

Happy with this time, although my bike computer came up about a half mile short of the 25 miles, so maybe it is not as good as I think.

Made a wrong turn at the turnaround - followed the "CMan" markings instead of the (nonexistent?) "Bugeye" markings. Probably didn't cost me more than 30 seconds though.
Transition 2

Comments:

no issues
Run
  • 57m 25s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Sigh. Another depressing run. I don't really get this one. I felt good and thought I was moving faster than this. This was basically the same speed I went at Columbia, except that is an extremely hilly course and this was flat as a pancake. More questions than answers here.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to run one day.

Event comments:

I really like this event. I have done several different distances, and it is always a nice, low-key race. The Bugeye was interesting this year as I think a bunch of the collegiate athletes who were going to compete at Half Full signed up for this at the last minute when USAT dumped Half Full. Made for a pretty fast field with all the fit 20-year-olds.
