Sunny
Total Time = 3h 52m 53s
Overall Rank = 57/151
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 5/12
Event warmup:

didn't warm up at all.
Swim
  • 36m 11s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

dreaded the swim from the pre-swim prior to the race, but on race day, the swim actually went better than anticipated. was not as cold, and felt less constricted. Still was out of breath at times, and felt tired, I blame it on the altitude (5 KFT)
What would you do differently?:

I did arrive early in the week to achieve some sort of acclimation, but not sure it really helped much.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 included in bike time.

Crappy T1 due to being wasted from the swim, and poor attempts to get all my junk on for the bike (camelback, gloves on wet hands, etc)..and just plain cold!
Bike
  • 2h 17m 5s
  • 17.4 miles
  • 7.62 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike performance was sluggish at best. I wish I had felt more powered up, I again blame it on the altitude, and being exhausted from the swim.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 included in Run time.

T2 was chaos. Could not find my stuff. We hurried too much in setup and I didn't sight the position well enough. With all the dirty bikes and gear laying around by the time I got there, it was tough to find my spot.
Next time, something more obvious, like a colored towel. My bad!
Run
  • 59m 37s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

felt pretty good on the run. a few brutal hills, but excellent trail run.
Here the altitude didn't seem to bother me as much, and surprisingly higher than the swim altitude.
Post race
Warm down:

eat and drink

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not used to the altitude

Event comments:

Great fun. Challenging due to altitude and cool weather.

Good job on the race!  I did the championship race, and your right the altitude was tough!

thanks Tony!

it was my first XTERRA outside hawaii.

Very fun, but challenging in many ways.

I'd like to do more in the future.

Lucky you, you live in Hawaii and get to do the best one!

It's a great series, been doing them almost since they started back in '98!  Let me know if you come back to do anyone of them!

Thanks Tony ! will do.

Thinking of doing XTERRA Moab. Have you done that one ?

Also have the pleasure of seeing Shonny Van landingham occasionally here in Hawaii.

Haven't done Moab yet.  Done a bunch of local series races; Alabama, Richmond & Ogden.  I'll make it to Moab one day, the MTB out there is awesome!
