Swim
  • 08m 10s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Come from swimming background, but still getting used to swimming with so many other people in the pool too!!
What would you do differently?:

Needed to warm up shoulders more, because they were stiff
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Wasn't so fast with the shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Bring Bucket to have a seat
Bike
  • 1h 10m 57s
  • 21 miles
  • 17.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Got stuck behind tractor trailor at the QT
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water/gatorade mix. I was worried that i may have went out a little to hard but it turned out well. Sometimes bike gears slipped.

Bike portion went better than i expected overall.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Legs felt like complete jello. Walked transition area both ways. Wasn't sure i was going to be able to run. Almost forgot to take my helmet off. HAHA.

Already had running shoes on so i didn't have to change shoes in this transition
Run
  • 41m 13s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Run pace felt strange. My ultimate goal was just to finish. In the beginning i thought i wasn't going to make it. As the run went on i started to feel like i could pick up the pace, but then i would feel like i was running out of gas at the same time. I still think my pace might have been to comfortable
What would you do differently?:

Run faster! I missed finishing 3rd in age group by a minute. Could have picked it up in transition run.

Practice drinking and running without choking
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a little watched other finishers. Went home and took a long nap. Muscles/knees a little sore later in the day.

Event comments:

I love these types of races. They are great for beginners. I loved seeing such a diverse group of athletes. Just goes to show everyone can be a triathlete. Was a very empowering day for me.

Congrats on your first!  That's awesome that you totally blew your goal out of the water...and what a swim!

I chatted briefly with a woman on the run who was doing her first. She was so excited to have gotten that far, and she too over estimated how much time it would take finish, she was worried her family would miss her finish!!! You are right...very empowering.

Congrats again!

Great Race!!

That was the third time I've done that race - one of my favorites in the area. I know what you mean about folks not letting you pass in the swim. I got caught up in some "groups" as well! One of them was near the wall so I just went underneath them and pushed off the wall under water and came up in the next lane. Gotta do what ya gotta do!

Congrats!

p.s. - Don't know if it was you but I was chatting with a gal after the race by the food who said it was her first race. *Now* you'll have to start planning your next race ;-)
