Subject: RE: Am I Swimming Enough Are you trying to be an Olympic swimmer or just finish an olympic triathlon? I suspect its closer to the latter.
Swim teams starting in High School will do at least 5K meters per day. In busy weeks, HS and college teams will do, maybe 10K meters per day. Obviously Phelps is going well above that. I read somewhere along the way that former Russian Olympic distance swimmers would do about 25K per day.
There are efficiencies to being in the water a lot. Just like there are efficiencies to having time in the saddle and efficiencies to developing long run skills.
Is 4x400 enough? If you're doing sprints and perhaps Olympic tris, sure. But don't expect to make the 2008 US Olympic swim team doing that. |
