Age Group Rank = 109/
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4AM, had some coffee and oatmeal. Drove to TTL. I dropped off my special needs bags and got my bike tires inflated. I put nutrition on bike and headed to porta-potties. They were way too crowded, so I just put my wetsuit on and waited to get into the water. Wink, wink.
Event warmup:

Swam to my spot.
Swim
  • 1h 08m 20s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam easy and relaxed. Only once did I find myself off course, easily corrected and back in the draft line.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have pushed a bit harder, not sure what it would have cost me later on.
Transition 1
  • 06m 19s
Comments:

This transition includes 1/3 mile of running to get bag and out to bike mount line, I think 6 minutes is reasonable. I did not utilize the change tent. A volunteer found me in the grass and helped me out. She got an eyeful as I applied a bit of bodyglide, but that is the reward of volunteering, right!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 6h 13m 21s
  • 112 miles
  • 18.00 mile/hr
Comments:

This is my weak leg. My goal on this bike ride was keep it very easy, keep nutrition on target, and save it for the run.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed harder, but this felt very comfortable and easy. I wanted it that way.
Transition 2
  • 04m 18s
Comments:

One of my training friends and teammates was my bike-to-run transition volunteer. He had my bag and directed me to a chair. I put on new socks and lots of glide on my feet. He put all my bike gear back in my bag and off I went. With a big smile! In my mind, it was showtime!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 3h 58m 58s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Considering my marathon PR is a 3:54, I nailed this run. I felt good, other than a moment of side cramps, I kept running until mile 20. Between 20 and finish, I walked aid stations and ran between them.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe skip a few aid stations and keep running.
Post race
Warm down:

Medic tent to tend blisters on feet.

Event comments:

Anthony Christianson, you are an Ironman!

Great race, and an awesome run split, especially considering your marathon PR was only a few minutes faster.  Well done and congrats!
