Okay, so here is my migraine story.

Almost 2 yrs ago, I starte having migraines non-stop. They were there when I woke up, when I ate or when I didn't, and were always there when I went to sleep. After about 2 months of this, I finally broke down and went to the neurologist...my family thought I had a brain tumor. Fortunately, after 3 mri's, nothing showed up. My neuro put me on depakote plus 3 days of iv's to break the cycle. I still tried to work through all this and almost lost my job. Filed for short-term disability until we could get it under control no go. Evidently migraines are not disabling...(yeah right.) Well, after 6 months on depakote, I had gained 25 lbs and was approaching 200 lbs. My highest weight ever in my life and I wasn't happy.

Talked to my neuro, he switched my preventive to Zonisamide (Zonegran) which also has a weight loss side effect. Started training for triathlon and have lost 22 of the 25 I gained. I take axert or maxalt depending on how bad the migraine is, sometimes I take both. If it doesn't go away, it is on to the neuro's office for iv's. Haven't had that in a while, since the preventives work. I always carry an axert in my rocket case.

As far as training after a migraine...I physically can't. My legs are always gone, I can't see straight for the rest of the day. Sometimes I can't train the next day either. So I say screw it. My body is trying to tell me something.

I used to get migraines so bad I could barely drive home from work.  I couldn't wait to get home and just lay in bed because I couldn't function.

Now when I feel one coming on, I take a Maxalt and it goes away.  I have to take the Maxalt less and less as time goes on.  I think it is becuase my stress level is reduced a lot.

Your problem sounds much more severe.  I understand how painful they can be.  I wish I had some better advice.

I used to get migraines all the time-and yes they are dibilitating. Many things casued them, heat, lack of sleep, stress, eating bananas. The lights and noises would make me so sick to my stomach along with the pain that all I wanted to do was throw up. Would take 2 benedryl and sleep to reset, but that doesn't work when you have school and a job and commute. So I went to a doc that prescribe paxil to help me sleep and destress and alleviate migraines. Helped with the sleep, but didn't get rid of the migraines. Diff doc gave me Maxalt for when I got a migraine and suggested lifestyle and dietary changes to make. Made some changes and moved, it helped but still had the headaches. New doc put me on a beta blocker (Propranolol) normally uesd to treat high blood pressure but has also been shown to prevent migraines. I had normal BP to begin with so I was okayed to try it out with further monitoring of my BP. Started with 1 80mg dose a day. Worked but still had a few migraines, so upped the dose to 80mg twice a day. Works great. Only get a migraine now if I get overheated or stay up most of the night. Only thing is with the Propranolol affecting my BP & therefore HR, I find it more difficult to get the same kinda burn durining Cardio. Before the med training through before or after a migraine was impossible-now I really don't have any problems unless I'm outside in the summer heat or over do it in the hot gym. Don't make anything up, just easy back into things and move on.
