I have been swimming for about a year using some swim "trunks" my wife picked up from Old Navy or some where. Anyway, i was wondering which brand(s) of jammers you have found to be the most durable. Are the sizing charts they give accurate? Also, any buoyancy with jammers? Any advice is appreciated.

No buoyancy with jammers, just reduced drag in the water.

I use Speedo brand, and have only had the one pair.  For me, the sizing chart was accurate; bear in mind that they are a snug fit, like tri shorts.

No matter the brand, go 100% polyester.

I like TYR polyester jammers.  They hold up well to chlorine and I've gotten at least two seasons out of them.  The lycra ones I wore previous only lasted about a year.

If you want something with a bit of bouyancy let me pass along a suggestion I got from someone here on BT months ago that has worked well for me.  Try Gold's Gym Compression Shorts.  They are made of neoprene (wetsuit material) and I picked them up at Walmart for $10.

Inexpensive and comfortable.  Just remember to rinse them off well after a pool swim.

I got some dolfin brand jammers after being promoted by a similar thread on here. The guy said he swims 5+ times a week and they have lasted over two years. I ordered a pair from metro swim shop for about $20. Just look for the ones made with Chloroban and they will be fine in the pool.

speedo brand made for chlorine use. Mine have lasted 6 months so far with 2-3 swims per week and no sign of being done any time soon.  Good luck.

x2.  Not real expensive and hold up to chlorine well.  I gained about 10% in speed when I went from trunks to jammers.

TYR jammers have been good to me for over a year with a ton of pool workouts.  I rinse them off every single time they are used.

X3.  I did have to size up from my normal 36 to 38 as the 36 were just way too tight.  They are still in good shape after almost a year of 2x a week swimming, but they have faded along the seams.  Must be the actual threads that are now a lighter color.  I just think of that as a badge of honor for my dedication.  There is no structual damage.

I don't understand this.  Why would you want to go faster in training?  I always swim in my trunks and have time targets that I am trying achieve.  When I wear tri-shorts for races, then I'm pleasantly surprised at how easy it is.

I would guess that your form is slightly different wearing old navy trunks vs jammers.

If you're not getting enough of a workout in jammers couldn't you just reduce your time targets?

Do you also ride the bike and run towing a parachute?
