Subject: No go deed goes unpunished..

This morning I arrived early to work (a little before 8). I work in a little strip mall type thing. I turn on the lights and I hear a cat meowing. Yep, there was a black cat (not too big, but not a kitten). What do I do?!? We have 2 kitties and 2 dogs at home...so thinking about taking her in, not an option!

I realize that there is a vet 2 doors down so I call them. "We can't take a stray cat!" Ok...so can you check for microchip!?!? "Yes."

The cat had run around the corner, but when I went back out I said "come on" and she came running. I was trying to get it to walk with me, realizing that touching a stray not necessarily the best idea...but it become obvious she was not a feral cat. I stuck out my hand and she sniffed it...and then she let me pick her up. She didn't really like the traffic noise but she let me carry her the half a block without too much of a struggle.

Well of course no chip...and its obvious that the cat is pregnant...or just has a droopy belly. The vet loans me a carrier and I take her back...

I try to call around, but at 8 am on a Thursday nothing is open yet.

There is a shelter/animal control about 5 miles from here, when they do open an hour and a half later...but the cat wasn't found in their district. ARGH! So the county animal control/shelter is where she needs to go, but they don't open until 11... And it's about 25 miles from here.

Meanwhile kitty is meowing, meowing, meowing.

I'm half tempted to let the cat go...but I know I can't do that. At least the kitty needs to get fixed after she has her kitties... ARGH!!

She is a beautiful black cat. Anyone want a more-than-likely pregnant cat? I mean, she let me carry her and didn't scratch or bite or anything!! :-)

I'll be taking her to the shlter that is a bit of a trip after I leave in a few hours... :sigh:

And heroism doesn't go unnoticed

You're doing a good thing, however annoying the meowing might be in the meantime.

1stTimeTri - 2012-12-06 10:40 AM Well, I believe you have a new addition to your family!

Ha! No way that Dave would let me bring in a 3rd cat. And I'm pretty sure I don't want another cat...who is more than likely "with kittens"...

We are puppy sitting for the first time tonight, for guide puppies for the blind...so our house will be plenty full of furry creatures!!

Getting closer to me being able to leave with the kitty...

It's really tough because people rarely adopt adult stray cats so even taking them to the shelter is often a death sentence.  Hopefully there's a no kill shelter in your area.

Just a word of encouragement.  We adopted two cats 12 years ago from a no kill animal shelter that were babies from a pregnant stray that was dropped off.  So, even if you can't find a home for the momma there's hope for the kittens.

Take her to another vet to "check for Microchip." Quietly slip out the door without the cat, while none is watching. The, once outside, put your tri-training to use, and run like hell!!! :D

if she was not pregnant I would be all over that. unfortunately neither my wife nor I would have time to look after a momma and kittens. but I have been trying to convince my wife to get another cat for a while.

good luck!

She is safely at the Tacoma Humane Society. It was a little sad taking her, but I knew there was no reason why we should have her. I checked and didn't see that it was a no-kill, but saw a few articles talking about how they are trying to be...

Bel:

Look at lost and found, 2nd page of female cats, black: ID#A470019. That picture isn't very flattering and they didn't state whether or not she is pregnant. But they say they think she is about 8 years old. She was a very sweet kitty...They don't say whether or not she was pregnant. I bet you could call and ask... Laughing
