Pre-race routine:

Coffee + banana

Event warmup:

Lots of IT Band stretches and a short jog to get warmed up.
Run
  • 2h 06m 56s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Small, fun race. 5k, 10k, 15k, and Half Marathon. Most folks ran the 5k.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretches, iced right knee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

IT Band tightened up at mile 4; had to concentrate on running easy and minimizing hard striking on ground. Traveled cross country the day before and was not rested - bonked out at mile 9; body was too tired and I simply ran out of fuel. I just focused on enjoying the run and the scenery. Awesome to be back in Cali running!

Event comments:

Great run if you are looking for small and affordable run. Rocket Racing Productions puts on lots of small races.

Jen great job in getting through the issues you had during the race and finishing it especially considering the travel time and lack of a good night's rest. These wind up being good races when you look back on them knowing that you were able to mentally tough it out and get through it.

Now that was an incredible effort.  Way to fight through the adversity and make it happen.  You should really be proud of this race.

Beautiful location as well, I miss So Cal sometimes!

After all of the obstacles to get to the race half the country away I think you were able to produce really solid effort.  Many people would kill for a HM with a similar time.

Good Job!

Girl, you did great!!!!  I would have loved to have that time on my 2nd HM (or 4th) and you really did well.  Way to press forward when things got bad at mile 4.  Glad that you enjoyed the race and absorbed the scenery and the atmosphere.  Recover and enjoy the rest of your vaca.

Thank you for all the support and virtual "high five's" on this one. Today is day 2 post-race and my knee is feeling significantly better - I got right back to stretching and am healing much faster - I attribute this to IT Band specific stretches.

This was a mentally challenging one for me to get through and am so gratfeul for completing the race and for taking the time to soak in the scenery during the run. At one point I watched a surfer head down to the water causing hundreds of seagulls to take flight and I just enjoyed the moment.
